I want a Powerbook. some quick help maybe.

alright alright i guess im a teen who likes to film a bunch of random stuff you know im in college and all that so i like to film parties, cars, whatever happens, but moslty i like to film skateboarding. me and a couple of friends wanna make a video and since im the only one who knows how to film and edit im gonna get the mac, for years i wanted an ibook or powerbook and i think i got the money now. since i usually use a pc which sux for editing by the way it always freezes when i try to edit, once in a while it will read my firewire,  you know it just sux. now since im not used to macs i have this question: will these specs be fine for a 12" powerbook with a superdrive work for strictly just editng and photos. and any bad reviews about this powerbook like something breaking, freezing, anything? please help im new to macs and im ready to do the "switch" thanks in advanced.peace.

my only nag about a 12 inch pbook is the screen is small. otherwise, good choice!

keep the 768 megs of ram but if possible I'd go with the 15" for editing unless you absolutely have to have it really small.

I agree. Before I got my Power Mac G4 with the 17" Apple Studio Display, I had to do all my editing on my 12" iBook. Not fun.

You may need an external drive for longer films and or multiple cameras.  Also if you are editing volume that also takes up space.  But if it is just for fun and only reletivley short movies you will be fine.

You should up the screen to 15 inches and then up your hard drive to 100GB. I am sure that since you are a film editors you know how much movies can take up on a hard drive. But if you have an external HD then I would stick with the 12 inch.

Also check into educational purchases, if your school offers mac you can usually save money above and beyond what Apple charges even.  Atleast at my college the powerbooks and powermacs are discounted heavily even over the normal apple student discount

I hope that this isn't too late, but DON'T buy your RAM from Apple! For whatever reasons RAM has always been higher priced at Apple than from reliable third parties. Get whichever Mac you decide upon with the default RAM, then upgrade it yourself--it's very easy, perhaps requiring the use of a small screwdriver.

I like Other World Computing for a lot of my Mac-related equipment, but if you would rather you can get RAM from Kingston or Crucial.
