Ergonomics? Wrist support? Chair/Monitor Height?
does anybody have any suggestions on curing my right arm pain? I've noticed a drastic change in my right arm since I've been working at this new print shop. I've never used any ergonomic stuff before but i've never really had a problem other than some minor discomfort after work somedays. I've been trying to make sure I'm sitting up properly. I even removed the right arm of the chair so that it doesn't force my right shoulder up into my neck. but man, i swear i've been having some pains. i don't know what i'm doing wrong. it's mostly my shoulder and the outer part of my upper arm that is really bothering me. it's actually starting to affect my drumming.
sometimes my neck hurts.
so anyways, i was curious what you all use and/or if you have any suggestions on some things to do or purchase.
thanks

Your chair should be high enough so your arms form a 90

Curing the pain will take some changes in the way you position yourself at your desk but the best suggestion I can make is to take periodic breaks away from your work... take a brief walk and stretch your arm and shoulder muscles. Here is a link that has some useful info:

Ciao for now!

Re: Ergonomics? Wrist support? Chair/Monitor Height?
I am at my computer about 14 hours a day. Sad but true.
Took me years to get the arrangement right but now I am pain free with my setup.
Set your chair height so your feet are flat on the floor (or box of you are shorter) and so that your thighs have even weight distribution along their length.
Make sure that you seat has adequate padding and that the lumbar support is good. I sit on a a big throw pillow from the couch and have a smaller rectangular pillow in the small of my back. This really helps stop hunching over and stops lower back pain.
Set your desk height then so that when you are seated and your forearms are parallel to the desk and at 90 degree angle to your upper arm when your upper arm is hanging normally down with no strain.
I have pads under both wrists where they rest on the desk. if I don't I will get calluses and the bones will hurt there.
Monitor placement is where I deviate from the norm.
I have my monitors really high. I used to put them at top of monitor 1" above eye level but found that I spent most of my time looking down which made the base of my neck hurt and led to migraines. Now my monitors are 13" up in the air and I am looking height wise at about the middle of my main monitor. This really helped and gives me more energy.
I also only use a tablet and keyboard. Mice are evil in terms of repetitive stress.
If you don't fix your workspace you can do permanant damage if you keep working while in pain so be careful.
Also try to get up at least once an hour. Even if you just stand up, walk to the the next desk and back it's a good thing. I hear the stories of people who get blood clots in their legs when on long flights and when I am coding I can lose track of time so much that before I know it 6 or 7 hours has passed and I haven't gotten up

I got this uber adjustable kb tray from ikea: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s … 0121*10297
I got the add on wrist support and mouse tray too.
I too spend 12-14hrs a day at the puter with no pain.

Ease up a bit, be cautious about your posture. Sometimes this may not be noticeable, but it will only be a matter of time before you finally realize the pain, I guess like what you are feeling right now. We often disregard out posture since we want to find the most comfortable position. But what the other guys said in the poll are true, so I suggest you follow their advises as well.
check out some advice here at this site, they may help as well. http://www.ergoblogger.com/blog

When I was doing a lot of coding I had to move to a roller ball. Since I cut back on coding, I am back to a mouse. It is a real problem.
