Island Thunder?
I know that there are ways to convert the files so that you can play Island Thunder on a mac, but I was wondering if this method is just a hold over until someone takes the time to port the expansion, or if that's the only solution, and all the mac users got hung out to dry with Island Thunder?

Re: Island Thunder?
Mac users got screwed by Ubisoft with Island Thunder. There will not be an official port ever made unless something freezes over.
I did the porting method of IT by DamnR6 with a copy I had found. It's worth it to have IT. Recon is soo dry without IT.
Lot of guys on Ranger are hosting downloads of the ported IT for Mac folk. I looked into it and it is semi legal. Ubisoft's stance is, they dont really care what Mac users do as long as their name isnt on it. Otherwise Ubisoft seems to have a really bad attitude toward Mac users. Some folks are calling it blantant pirating but ya can't pirate something that isnt there to begin with
. Thats one reason why people don't host the downloads for the public. The other is: Ubisoft won't look into anything unless they find out its being hosted for the public, cause IT can be ported back to PC easily. As you can see, both reasons kinda go hand in hand. Right now Ubisoft only cares about making money thru the PC.

Re: Island Thunder?
Is there a good person to contact, or a site to vist, where I can get the files from, or should I just go out and buy Island Thunder and do the conversion myself? I would love to have IT.

Re: Island Thunder?
You can't buy IT anymore. They do not sell it in a seperate pack
. Otherwise I would be sending everyone to places that have it. Im not sure if the new multi pack PC version has all the packs seperate either. I've heard mixed reports from people about that. But to convert manually you would need a PC or VPC. I got all the instruction on how to do it too (well the simplified instructions..ie: better ones).
As for getting it from someone else. This is the way most people i've ran into on GameRanger got it. I however dont have any links. I did at one time, before the Recon division started, from a few people but they pulled the links awhile back cause they just couldn't host the 200MB file anymore.
I'll keep my eye out for a used copy online somewhere for ya
.

Re: Island Thunder?
I found it on file sharing already ported to mac. If it wasnt so big and if I had the spaced I would host it.
I use aquisition and sometimes limewire. Search for various combos, IT, IT ac, island thunder mac, island thunder, etc.
Isn't there a way to share files with other people via the drop box in osx?
How secure is this?

Re: Island Thunder?
You can share files thru a lot of things. Even iChat. It works well but as far as security goes for each method. Your guess is as good as mine.

Re: Island Thunder?
I bought the "Gold" Edition a few weeks ago at a WalMart and performed the conversion via *DamnR6:
http://www.damnr6.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7697.0
Everything went well once I realized it's the data1.cab files that must be unpacked, even though data1 appears to be too small (~500k) for that to happen.
Only problem with playing is that the opening "video" doesn't play unless you convert that over.
Writing for film? Then you need Movie Magic Screenwriter.

Hmmm, thats interesting. When I did it, it was the Data2. Could have been a difference with the Gold Edition CD. Thanks for letting us know!

Re: Island Thunder?
Not saying that this is the case but, if someone were to use Limewire or Acquisition and take a little time to search for keywords like "Island Thunder mac" they may just stumble across said file like I did. I'm not saying that I found mine on limewire but I just might have, had I not, if you follow......
With all of that aside, maybe a few of us with fast connections could help out some of the others to get IT. I would volunteer for this.
I'm not sure about transfering a 200 meg file via iChat, if both people had highspeed connections this may work but if the reciever is on a dial up this probably wont be an option.

Re: Island Thunder?
Hi, I bought a copy of the PC Gold edition (VERY cheaply), but can't find the patch linked on the DAMNR6 site - once I get past the fileplanet login I can't track it down. Can anyone point me to an active link? Thanks

Re: Island Thunder?
The patch is still on there. You just have to log in on Fileplanet to get it. If you don't have an account just make a free one real quick. Then try to d/l the patch again.
