Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

I use Adobe Go Live6.  This page:  http://members.cox.net/riversbend/February.html
when viewed on my son's Windoze computer is a mess.  The table has one word per line.

When viewed on my Macs (both the one the site was created on and my iBook, the table looks just as it was created.

I've spent hours & hours trying to fix but am stumped.  Does anyone have a clue as to what could be going on here?

Re: Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

Sorry I couldn't be of much assistance, but, to be completely honest with you, there comes a point where it may very well be faster to simply start over.  Since I'm not a user of GoLive, I can't offer any program-specific suggestions that might fix your problem.  The best I can do is tell you to view the page in iCab and see if all the millions of errors it will report clue you into any problems of some sort.

Sorry.  sad

I noticed a lot of "colspans" & "rowspans." You might have fewer problems if you switched to nested tables instead.

Why would this page look OK on my mac but not on Windows?

Re: Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

You are going to need to scrub that code.  I am not farmiliar with GoLive, but there should be some tools in it for clean up.  To start with, you want to dump the height tags on the table parts.  Prolly the font and aligns as well.  Given the volume of colspans and rowspans it would be eaiser to start over fresh.

Always plan your layout first if you are using a GUI.  Every time you edit a page, you can build up odd things in the code as the GUI tries to do what you are asking.  Draw out your table with a pencil if need be.

I do all my work in DW, both the GUI and text editor.  If you understand how they work and have a plan, the can write perfect code.

Re: Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

The page is no  longer visible - but one thing I have noticed with GoLive, it's not a good idea to have uneven rowspans.
ie: don't try to make a cell end in the middle of two other cells.

I hope this makes sense.
Colspans can typically end wherever you want, but rowspans like to end to match up with other row joints.

Maybe this image will help.

when Photoshop or Illustrator do thier slicing, this kind of arrangement will work, but otherwise doing it by hand, you should try not to do the 'Bad' sample in the image.
I haven't figured out how to make those work correctly.

Again, I haven't seen your table to know for sure, but this is a common mistake is golive.

Re: Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

Thanks Gipetto.  I've uploaded a new page at:  http://members.cox.net/riversbend/February%20'03.html
Would you mind checking that to see if I should change anything?

Do you have any idea why a page would appear OK on a Mac but when viewed on a Windoze,  be such a mess?  The original page had a table inwhich every word was on a line by itself making the page 3/4 of a mile long.

Thanks for you help smile

Re: Help!!! My Table is a mess!!!!

I justed looked at it with Windows2000/IE6 and everything looked OK.

One thing I did see by reading the source was that you've styled each cell individually.
You really don't need to do that. I would pull out all that formatting and then to get it to work select the entire table and apply your style sheet to it.
Your son's computer might be getting confused with all the formatting tags.

Its pretty minor, but that's the only thing I can think of.
