[IBook] Car Computer, LCD question
hello, i read through some threads but i couldnt find an answer. if anyone knows or has advice please respond. moving on. i have a G3 IBook 800mhz collecting dust, and decided to make it to good use. The plan is to get this thing functional in a car.
The first obstacle is taking off the lcd which i can do, but i would need to extend the lcd from the rest of the laptop, probably around 2 feet. i would guess theres probably 12 or so wires coming from the lcd, so i was thinking of using some 22-gauge hookup wire for extension. If that works, then im going to utilize a swivel lcd mount so i can move it in any direction. I also plan on redoing the bezel in acrylic.
Im curious if that solution would work the laptop keyboard also. its extremely small to use, and it would save me having to buy a usb keyboard.
Im also getting a MacMini in a few weeks (free from gratis/freepay) and was curious if i could use the lcd as well. This may go in the car with the IBook, or just by itself all together. I know that using the lcd of a laptop requires the controller board, which i have.. despite that no one says how to do it if you DO have it. So any input is great.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: [IBook] Car Computer, LCD question
the cables on the LCD are actualy a very small RF wiring with an outer sheild and inner conductoe, search the net on this, so 22 ga. wire wont work, without an adaptor board you wouldn't be able to use the LCD on another machine of another type.
Please Don't make my brain hurt, ask logical, thought out, and well worded questions.

thanks for the quick response.
I guess i should look for RF wires for the laptop, or just get a new LCD plus the MacMini

Re: [IBook] Car Computer, LCD question
Or you could by a nice 7in or 8in LCD RGB monitor. I got one for just the purpose you mention. It would work great with the Mini also. They run from $250 on up depending on where you get it. The one I have has 1 RGB input and 2 composite video inputs so I can use it as a DVD or game machine display as well. It will do 1024X768 just fine. I think that would be allot less painfull than what you're thinking about.
