The cheapest place to get a used PowerBook G4...
I'm in the market for a Powerbook, I would like to spend around the neighborhood of $700-1300 for one of the newer Aluminum ones. Would you guys help me out in finding some sources?

First of all, are you eligible for educational and/or developer discounts?

Everyone and their grandma is eligible for educational discount!
For one thing they really do not and can not afford to check with thousand of school and millions enroll, for another everyone know someone or friend of someone who is in school!
By the way, this I feel is another way where normal retail channel Mac dealer is getting ripoff!
Do not settle for the world in shades of grey

Re: The cheapest place to get a used PowerBook G4...
If you want the 12", you have three options for a refurbished aluminum PowerBook within your price range. If you want the 15", you have one option for a refurbished aluminum PowerBook in your price range. Keep in mind that these refurbished Macs have gone through Apple's quality control checks twice, and that they have warranties.
Go to www.apple.com/education/store and look on the right side for the red "Save" tag which is a link.
If you need to buy software, that Apple educational discount store and www.journeyed.com are good places to go for educational discounts. You can find good deals on RAM on www.dealram.com, but avoid Omni Technologies- they are terrible.

I'm planning to use it for stuff like video editing, so I'm wondering if the best iBook would be as good as say a 12 inch PB?

Well, the iBook would be on par with the Powerbook in most respects, however the Powerbook has significantly superior graphics hardware, as well as a higher CPU ceiling.
That said, the 16Mb Rage card in my G3 tower is more than adequate for video editing work, so I think you would be quite happy with the performance of the iBook.
