My understanding is that they use the same LCD manufacturer, only Dell doesn't ask you to pull your gold teeth to pay for it.Because it feeds the pocketbook of Dell (and by extension, Microsoft.) Duh. Akin to buying Ford Mustang floormats for a Chevy Corvette.
Yeah, but Corvettes and Mustangs are both crappy redneck cars made by lazy Union labour.
Which has absolutely nothing to do with anything remotely on-topic.

Well, if you want less money in your pocketbook by a considerable amount just so that you won't be buying something from Dell - I suppose that's your business.
Hope your credit cards are all payed down - otherwise, you'll be paying interest on that decision for quite some time.

What make your say Union Labour mean Lazy?
Are you saying non Union Labour mean Hardworker?
is there some kind of actual fact behind that statement?
Should I feel safer flying non Union pilot airline as oppose to union pilot who might be lazy and fell asleep during flight or too lazy to do the walk around before each flight?

Specifically with computers, brand-loyalty means a lot more to me than saving a few bucks - evidenced by me buying Apple as opposed to an eMachine at Wal-Mart or scouring teh intreweb for "good deals." And you're right, it is my business.

My credit - and cash funds, for that matter - are just fine. Don't worry your sweet, little head. iBubs is okeeday.

Have anything to back that up or are you still clinging to that old prejudice against American cars? Are you one of those people who still think Macs run OS 8.6 or Windows is still at Win95?

No, they're still crap. Even the supposed luxury models are just the rebadged budget cars with some added extras.

You mentioned the car analogy. I just pointed out that it was crap because you compared two poor brands instead of a good one and a bad one.
Ok, back on topic.

Yeah, but just choose some nicer brands or something. Just seeing the words Chevy or Mustang makes me feel like I'm listening in on a conversation in a crap diner in the midwest or something.

Ok Everone get off the cars. And misterboo, if you have complaints about certain cars (which IS offtopic here) I recommend you follow everyone's suggestion and start a new topic, preferably in the Rant Room.

Re: Just snatched a 20.1" Dell display
Here's my 2 cents on the subject. Understand that I love Apple products for all the same reasons as most of you. I was recently in the market for new monitor(s). I read lots of reviews, then checked out as many as I could in person. After all was said and done, I ended up buying 2 Samsung SyncMaster 930B (19 in.) monitors for $400 a piece. Add in 2 DVI cables for another $50 a piece for a grand total of $900. I was very impressed with the sharpness, brightness and traditional proportions. I left the technical specs up to the 'experts' at ZDnet. They had good things to say about both Apple and this particular Samsung model. For me, the total amount of desktop space is very important. I can live with having to use multiple monitors for the sake of saving a good bit of cash. So, to compare the 2 monitors I bought to the single 20 in. Cinema Display comes down to this:
Samsungs => 2,621,440 pixels
Apple 20 in => 1,764,400 pixels
Thats 50% more real estate for $100 more.
I have been using them for a couple of months now and have been very pleased with them, so I feel I made the right decision. The same probably goes for the original poster who bought the Dell. It's all about what is important to the individual. 'nuff said.

YESTERDAY Czachorski wrote:
On the Dell being crap, perhaps you mis-understood. I was not saying that the Dell display is total crap. I would even go so far as to say the Dell is a good deal. I did not buy one, but that is me. The anandtech review called these 2 a dead-heat in their review. I think that is a good conclusion considering their tests.
(Bold highlights added for emphasis)
I am well aware of that article and even referred to it in an earlier post. Remember, the first reason I listed for in my first post yesterday was that I think the Apple looks prettier, and that justifies the price for me. In the catagory of you-get-what-you-paid for, I listed 3 items that concerned me:
1. Who designed it.
2. Who manufactured it
3. Who quality controlled it.
That anandtech article does not address a single one of these 3 items that could potentially dispell the you-get-what-you-paid, for this particular set of monitors. The only one you touched on slightly yesterday was that both are supposedly produced by the same chinese factory. You have failed to provide a link for that claim, and still have not addressed my comment on that yesterday, which was:
I think someone else also pointed out in that prior thread that the same plant could produce machines from the same components, but with different designs and quality control standards such that the end product comes out entirely different from a quality stand point.
So it is I who waits anxiously for you to reply.

Oh - and on that comment by someone who said something about chosing name brand over performance: for the companies that have earned such a status, name brand IS performance. It means performance. I think you have the cart and horse mixed up in your head again.

Re: Just snatched a 20.1" Dell display
I do believe the answer for this product is
1. LG, with Apple design external encloser
2. LG
3. LG
we are not talking about a LG with many seperate product line, we are talking about same fab line with exact same major component (lcd panel)

Well then, on such strong anecdotal evidence, from Mr. Anecdotal, I guess that I will run out and buy one.
So why did the initial Dell batches have lighting problems, and the Apple didn't (see your own referenced article). I think you are over-simplifying things a little.
