NOLF 2
While I wait for Halo, I decided to play NOLF2. It is a super game but I am having video sound issues that I wondered if anyone experienced the same problems.
Half way through the game, the character conversations wouldn't stop, and conversations belonging to other non related cut scenes would play and continue to loop until I nearly went crazy. This also would prevent the player to proceed in the game, because many of the characters wait until a speech is finished before they act. I finally removed the SOUND.REZ file from the data folder just to proceed in the game. I have e-mailed Mac Play, but I haven't received a reply yet. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: NOLF 2
Are you running in Panther? I found that running this game in Panther caused that problem too. The cut scenes would just start cycling all the dialog from the game. I booted into 10.2.8 and it worked fine. But my problem started immediately, not further into the game.

Re: NOLF 2
I'm not running the game in Panther. I am in 10.2.8. Just before the problem started I crashed during the game. When I started it up again it seemed okay. It wasn't until I was in the Vault that the conversations started looping. I limped through the rest of the game then I threw out any preferences that I could find, as well as application support files and re-installed the game. It didn't help, now the problem is from the beginning. It's too bad because it was really a fun game. I hope that I can figure out what is causing it to misbehave.

Re: NOLF 2
I dunno, I just started the game, so Im only at the old records building. Macplay is pretty shady. I mean, in order to start the game, I have to switch to a resolution with a 60hz refresh rate. lame

Yeah, same disturbing problem here - I hope I won't get the dialog problem, too!!

Re: NOLF 2
I feel better knowing that the problem is effecting other people. I thought that I had done something lame that had caused it.
If MacPlay ever responds to my e-mail for help, I'll post the fix here. (I've decided to keep bugging them until they do.)
Once you get farther into the game, certian levels are dependent on characters interacting with you. They have a little speech and then they will act. They can't do this if the speech never ends. The game is playable though, I just saved/quit then moved the SOUND.REZ file out of the data file on the computer (but still in the nolf2 folder) when the conversations wouldn't stop. Then when I came upon an area where conversation was needed, I'd save/quit and put it back in until it was done, then save/quit and take it out again. It worked but I naturally missed the movies.

Re: NOLF 2
What hardware are you running on, because Ive got a G4 867, 640MB Ram and a 64MB Radeon 8500 and even with everything as low as possible, I get noticeable lag in certain areas. It's getting to be more and more noticeable. Im hoping its just an issue with this level

G4 Dual 1GHZ, 512 mb ram, 10.2.8 OS
I didn't have any lag, or if I did I was too distracted by all of the voices in my head. "Over Here! Over Here! Caw Caw Caw...."
I'd happily play this thing with low resolution and minimal settings if only the sound video issue would go away. I would turn my refresh rate to 60mhz if only to try it but that area in my Displays panel is greyed out. Frankly, I don't think I should have to anyway. It should work without my doing a silly voodoo dance.

Re: NOLF 2
You don't happen to have a 3rd party sound card or audio interface that could be messing up the playback of audio in the game, do you?

Re: NOLF 2
Nope, Quicktime 6.4. But you may be on to something. I recently ran software update and installed the new Quicktime. I don't remember if I was already having problems with the game before I did that though. Is there an easy way to put the old quicktime back?

Re: NOLF 2
I don't know if it's easy to downgrade QuickTime or not, since I've never done it.
However, if you want to give it a shot, you can download QT 6.3 here.

Re: NOLF 2
You were right. I just got an email from MacPlay and the game has an issue with Quicktime 4. Now I have new problems, I am unable to mount the downloaded version of Quicktime 3 due to error 95 ( using either disk copy or stuffit. ) Still, I'm happy that there is a fix for this.
Thanks for the help everyone!

Re: NOLF 2
Wow, let's hope they get us an update to address these issues. I'd also like to see if there's a way to switch to 16 bit color. I think that would improve my frames

Re: NOLF 2
I have tried the following with 10.2.6 and 10.2.8. i haven't tried it with 10.3 yet.
I set the refresh rate to 72hz and things ran smoother.

Re: NOLF 2
I ran that reinstaller and it just messed up my quicktime. I can't use it unless I put it back up to 6.4. Ugh, goddamn shoddy MacPlay

Re: NOLF 2
i just got this game recently, and i find that in places the npc's get stuck trying to walk somewhere (poor pathing) and i can't get them to move. at one point, when you've just been captured in a big glass cage and suspended over a huge pit, the guy in the cage with me drops out and is supposed to run over to a stuck door and bash it down. problem is, he gets stuck in the glass floor, so we've both dropped to the ground and he's "running" full tilt into the floor. nothing i can do will move him, and i've reloaded that area 8 or 9 times so it's not a bug; it happens every time. i can just use a cheat to skip past that level, but it's so much fun shooting those stupid french mimes!
anyone else have this (or similar) problems?
oh, i also downgraded to quicktime 6.3 after having the same audio issues and it fixed everything.

Re: NOLF 2
Try reloading the level and move in front of Magnus before the cage drops - he will move to get out of your way. Then he will be able to run and try and break down the door. It worked for me anyway.

Hey, this October! Zombies should be encouraged.
Have you tried the upgrade from the MacPlay site?
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.
