After the new LCD monitor, my Mac won't Shutdown!
After the new LCD monitor, my Mac won't Shutdown!
So I just boguht the new Dell 20" widescreen LCD monitor and installed it. Now my Mac won't shutdown! I have a Sawtooth G4 (ex-450 MHz) 1.3 GHz OWC upgrade with ATi 9000 Radeon Pro. I first connected the Dell via DVI directly. Now I have the DVI-VGA adapter on the ATi and it's connected to the VGA port on the Dell, and it still won't shutdown - meaning I select "Shut Down" and it turns off but comes back on immediately, so it's like a Restart!
I found the article on Apple's website:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86219
and ordered the ADC-DVI adapter. Now does this really cure the problem? Or is there a better and cost-free method?
Btw, I had the 17" Studio CRT display before this.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Steve

Hmm, that's weird. It's just a monitor so I doubt it has anything to do with that... but you never know. I've never heard of a problem like this one before. Anyone else care to pitch in?

Re: After the new LCD monitor, my Mac won't Shutdown!
Not sure what the issue is exactly, but I do know it's related to the USB hub in the DELL monitor. The hub is self-powered (ie from the monitor's power supply) and for some reason it does not shut down when the Mac does, causing the Mac to react to the signal (some UPS's and network systems can power the Mac up/down via USB).
Remove the cable connecting the USB hub in the monitor to your Mac's USB port and it will shut down as normal (the "Free fix" you wanted).
This still might be related to the video card issue (as per Apple's implying in the tech document you cited) as it seems to be happening when the video card on the Mac has both the ADC and DVI connectors (like a Radeon 9000 Pro Mac edition).
