Re: The Rules - Discuss
As I have stated before (in another post) I saw the dark side of Cybercott and took it out of my sig. These type of things do make the forum less fun and more "torches and village people" (no, not "those" village people). IMHO, I would like to see less "moderation" and more self moderation. Call me a wet bag, but I think that many problems can be taken care of before they go to post

Re: The Rules - Discuss
Trust me, the mods would love to not have to feel like we're babysitting (and many times, that's exactly what we're doing). The problem is, when left to their own devices, there are just people who love to raise a ruckus and earnestly try to cause problems. Such members either can't or won't regulate themselves. Who's left? What can the level-headed rest of the MAF population do to control a trouble-maker? Either they ridicule him (or otherwise try to drive him out) and it works, or he stays around unchecked.
Point is, we've gotta be here. We do try to let you "moderate" yourselves. Thing is, then some people don't like how they get mud thrown at them after filling our swimming pool with dirt. Then we're getting complaints from the actual trouble makers, complaining about how so-and-so broke a rule, when it was just retaliation.
Where does it end?

That's some savory satire you've got working there.

How about bringing back the ignore function for the trouble makers?

Ignore functions are for girls.
But it's still nice to have around if you know for sure someone irritates you every time they post.

The ignore function. I tried it once, and found it to be completely stupid - 9 times out of ten if someone said something I'd prefer to ignore someone would quote it anyway. The tenth time they didn't quote it... and thereafter the entire conversation wound up being based on it anyway, so I would have to go back to read it.
There's not much point to it.

*nods* It would be much better if the Ignore function blocked out full threads if the person you were trying to ignore had posted there. That, IMHO, would be ideal.

Yeah, but then all someone on their ignore list would have to do is post in the Evolution thread, and the guys who've been into it for all 36 pages would then see it vanish from the browser just because of one stupid post. That'd not be cool.

Re: The Rules - Discuss
Then instead of it hiding the entire thread, it would come up with a disclaimer indicating on what pages the ignored party posted on, and how stupid they were..

I still say what would be more awesome than ever banning someone would be to where whenever they make a post, they can see it, but no one else can.

So why don't we both either stand up and fight

That'd be cool! The "how stupid they were" part would require some serious coding though.

I'm suprised Phydeaux hasn't posted.

Has anyone seen him lately at all? He's still posting on CH54...
Naah, what would the point be? We're here to read, not to hide entire pages.

What if the ONLY post they could see was their own?

That would be funny. A kind of "surprise... you are banned" kind of thing. You don't get to see what your flame inspired.

Look again. I was editing the opening post before going back to reopen it, just hadn't gotten there yet.

I've kinda taken to my new av and title, too. However, you should do as I did and take out the Happy Halloween location.
