The Latest From Pat Robertson
Check out this article about Pat Robertson's view on the PA town who voted to remove the schoolboard who were in favor of intelligent design. Here's the quote that summarizes the article for you:
Pat Robertson wrote:
I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God. You just rejected him from your city...

Re: The Latest From Pat Robertson
Nothing wrong with it. What he said is not illegal. Not even what Ted Kennedy was saying today (blaming the US for the bombing in Jordan, while the Jordanians were blaming the terrorists), is illegal.

Re: The Latest From Pat Robertson
It seems to be an article of faith that when a conservative says something outrageous, the dittoheads simply say it's not illegal.
Is it moral, chum o' mine? Is it ethical? Is it the sort of thing a respected man of faith should be saying?
Yeesh. This falling-back on legality as a substitute for morality is nauseating.

Good lord (pun intended). How many more terrorist threats will Pat Robertson give?
I wonder what happened to my colleagues who voted with me as I opposed every war supplemental request under the previous administration. It seems, with very few exceptions, they have changed their position on the war now that the White House has changed hands.--Ron Paul

I'm a bit queazy about legislating morality.
I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

Schnick, it's done on both sides. "It's just about sex" ring a bell?

Got a link for that?

Nope. Just abysmally ignorant, pigheadded and vile. But not illegal.

Are you saying that all lies are equal?
That argument was often leveled at the investigation itself, IIRC...

The pro-lifers have shut down all abortion clinics in Mississippi. Mississippi and Louisiana are full of god fearin' folk. Why then did I AM decide to smite them with not one, but two nasty hurricanes? And Kentucky and a tornado? Here in California, where domestic partnerships are legal and we just voted down a parental consent law, all we get is the occasional earthquake. And anyone suggesting that ID be taught in California schools would be laughed at. Massachusetts has same-sex marriage, as do Canada, the Netherlands and Belgium - not many catastrophes there yet.
Pat Robertson is a smurf.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

He's an alleged 'man of the cloth.'
Compare this diatribe with, oh let's try, how former Pres. James Earl Carter might approach this.
Almost makes me wish our man Chavez would send a hit squad north.

Yikes!
Pat Robertson has rights to his opinions, just like we do when we call him all sort of names in this forum. At least he didn't say "the voters should be taken out..."

I don't think anyone is saying he doesn't have rights to his own opinions, or even implying that.
We're just pointing out that a prominent "Christian" leader with a lot of Christian followers and supporters is insane.

Oh, I think he's quite sane.
Just intensely evil.

Really? You sure about that? He seems to be threatening them with divine wrath, doesn't he?
And still can't quite address the morality of it, can you?
This is why respect for conservatism is plunging. Exactly this sort of talking points amorality.
And yeah, "both sides" engage in this sort of defense. My question is, how does that make it right?

My question is, where are the genuine Christians and why do they put up with this mockery? Maybe we shouldn't be so hard on the Muslims since they don't seem to get a legitimate mouthpiece either.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with judgeing a movement by the leadership it allows to rise to power.
The Christians in this country have allowed the extreme right to define them, and step forth as spokesmen for the faith..
Its up to the so called "real christians" to clean up their own house.
Same goes for the Muslims.
But now the sun beats down on the asphalt land

What little still grows cringes in the shadows till the night fall...
