Re: When will OS X 10.5 be released?

I used Win2K almost exclusively for 2 years and I had lots of complaints about its UI and general way of doing things that pissed me off but besides that it was a sound, reliable OS. I could do what I needed to do, just enjoyed it less than if I had had a Mac.
I think most of the Windows problems brought up here are of the PEBKBAC variaty.

I agree, I use an xp when I have to, and it's noticeably harder to use, but works ok. However, the hardware in that computer is far better than my iBook. I was just pointing out that with nearly identical hardware, the mac runs better

Re: When will OS X 10.5 be released?

I can safely say that Apple's desktop hardware seems much nicer than Dell, HP, Compaq and whoever.  About the only company that comes close is maybe Sony or Alienware. It is a joy to work inside a G5, where it is a pain in the ass on just about anything else.

Most PCs I have seen under the care of a professional IT dept are fine, and most of the ones I have seen with problems were in home use.  Call that PEBKBAC if you want, but it seems to me that MS has developed a system that is not intuitive and simple enough to maintain for the typical home user.  Put it another way - I have engineering applications that you probably can't understand without an engineering degree.  If I sit a non-engineer down in front of such an app, and they can't make it work, it must be PEBKBAC.  That is why PEBKBAC is a flimsy cop-out.

PEBKBAC = Problem exists between keyboard between and chair?

Problem=P
Exists=E
Between=B
KeyBoard=KB (KB commonly used to denote Keyboard)
And=A
Chair=C

Keyboard is one word, everyone else spells it PEBKAC wink

An acronym contains one letter for each word, period. "Keyboard" is one word, not two, and should be treated as such.

Google fight:
A search for PEBKBAC yields 3 results; a search for PEBKAC yields 159,000.

Re: When will OS X 10.5 be released?

but how do you know if it means keyboard vs key?

edit: obviously this acronym is DOS biased. Otherwise it would be something like 'PEBU/UI'

or 'PEBM/UI'

If you know what that expression is supposed to stand for, you know it means keyboard and you wonder why the person made that typo. If you don't know what that acronym is supposed to stand for, the whole thing is gibberish to you anyway.

"CLI biased" would be more accurate than "DOS biased."
