Re: Is there a good racing game for Mac?

but then again, Ed just ported the game.  He can't do too much to actually change it, right?  Porting is just changing the executable file to be compatible and doesn't involve changing the game code, as far as I know.

Yeah, Feral just did the port, so they couldn't really change content.

Its all part of the mystery of being a mod!  sneaky

Actually, as for how I know about him, he's previously mentioned a connection to Feral Interactive.  It was as easy as Googling to find out what he does.  If an industry pro visits the forums, I try to learn a bit about them, or at least the company they work for and the projects that company is responsible for, so I can hold intelligent discourse with them.  Brad Oliver, Glenda Adams, et. al. drop by from time to time, and being a gaming enthusiast, I enjoy hearing about what projects they're working on (when they can talk about them).  What always brings a smile to my face is when they come by and listen to gamer's responses to games, and use those reactions to work on patches and whatnot.

As to what I know about you, let's see... you're in New York City, your ISP is Verizon, and I've yet to install a camera in your bathroom, but judging by the sounds, you may want to try using lubricant. wink

Re: Is there a good racing game for Mac?

If you can scare up some kind of playstation emulator, Gran Tourismo works pretty well. Connectix VGS worked fine, but only under OS 9. I've tried a couple Win32-based PS1 emulators in the past as well, and they ran fine too. Since VGS is kind of illegal-ware or someting, you might have to port one of the free/open source ones.

Re: Is there a good racing game for Mac?

I have CVGS, but as you said it's OS 9 only. I tried an OS X Playstation emulator once but it didn't work.

the first part of that was Ics' joke.  The second part is incorrect, given that I am currently in a towel.

Not that I've been able to find.

In fact, I haven't been able to find one to try at all. What one were you using that didn't work for you, uki?

You can try PCSX, though development on the Mac version has been stalled for a while.

Or looking at his posts, which list him as From Feral Interactive HQ, his website... or just hanging around IMG a little more, where he posts all the damn time. smile You can catch up on the M4 thread, too, which is longer than the MA Urban Dead thread. BigSmall needs some company.

Some Mystery Mod Powaz you're showing. hmm

Or Prep H.

Yes, I know he posts at IMG, too.  I'm just going from what I can collect here.

my bust.  I thought I was bashing Ford (as in the big, American company that makes unreliable cars), not an actual person.  I apologize sincerely.

No Problem smile

Ed, think of what I have to say as constructive criticism.
As I've stated, the graphics are great and, if the game was released today, it could pass the graphics test.  The gameplay didn't "suck" as I stated earlier, but it wasn't thrilling.  It seemed too simplistic.  I wish there had been more to the game than just 'be the first person to reach the finish line in this highly-realistic environment."  The different cars looked cool and all and there was definitely a definitive difference between the low-end cars and the beefy ones, but I wish there was like an auto shop, where you could buy new parts.  Also, I wish there was like powerups along the way that could give you boosts.  And why does this game have to be in a closed course?  Why not have maps/tracks that are on real city streets, so people can, say, spot their building in LA or New York while playing the game.  Then you should have other cars on the road, some civilians (who you lose points if you run them over) and most of all, cops.  All good racing games need cops.  There.  I hope that compensates for what I said.

That's cool, we as a porting house cannot change the Mac version to over the original versions, we normally add our standard Mac extras to games (widescreen, iChat status, iTunes pausing etc..) but when it comes down to major design decisions these where made by the original designers. Your points are fine as when compared to the great simulators like the GT series Ford Racing does not stand up well, but Ford Racing was designed as a quick and simple bit of fun. We have Colin McRae in development although it does not have the streets and police has full damage models, car upgrades in Career mode, full and complex physics modelling the cars and a large list of different handling cars. So I think you would like Colin more than Ford although the lack of cops might be an issue wink
