Re: What ever happened to saying "Merry Christmas?"

I love how the 'pawz says "stay on topic"- his outline goes:

1 merry christmas
2 pc is lame
3 country music

So stay on topic folks.

Hey, I'm christian and dont celebrate christmas because I dont believe in it, so there.

Actually, I think it's harder for someone from a Christian background to pass on Christmas. They'll never hear the end of it.

Oh, and it's "RamaHanuKwanzMas".

Re: What ever happened to saying "Merry Christmas?"

The Vatican 'appropriated' Dec 25 from the pagan observance of the Solstice. So, although I believe in a merry Christmas for everyone (the merrier the better) I tend to go with the 'historically correct' -- 'Happy Solstice'.

It has the advantage of being astronomically true. And therefore all inclusive for anyone currently residing on the planet.

Having said that, I'll never tire of a replay of the Christmas Eve reading of Genesis from Apollo 8 as we looked back to see earth for the first time from beyond earth orbit.

Family and friends generally get both Merry Christmas and Happy Solstice.

shrug

Work for Apple, Office Max, KMart, Sears, or any other main chain, they are not allowed to say Merry Christmas, it is either Happy Holidays or nothing.

That's capitalism my dear, not political correctness.

Even if 95% of your customers celebrate Christmas, why risk alienating the other 5%? It's either an appropriate catch-all term like "Happy Holidays" or no greeting at all.

2) A religious feast day; a holy day.

Now stop wishing me Happy Holidays... this has nothing to do with HOLY days. It's Christmas, it's about BUYING stuff at the mall.

Now shut up and buy me one of those O'Reilly Factor ornaments for my Christmas tree.

You know I don't use the word hate too often but there are a few things I really hate...

1. Politically correct snobs... I'm sorry, but Merry Christmas! Not Happy Holidays, not Season Greetings, or anything else.. Merry Christmas! For as far back as I can remember I have been told Merry Christmas, when did that change? Come on people, is it really that bad to actually still say Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year?

2. People without spines, or think skins... You can't say anything around these people without them either feeling disgruntled, offended, or file a report on you because you offended them, or people around them, although no one really complained but them... give me a break, when did the people of the US become so pussy whipped that we worry about "Did I offend women?", or "Did I offend homosexuals?" or whatever with a statement I made?

3. Music remakes, now come on, there are some things that are fine, but doing a cover song for The Gambler, and re-wording it to make it more PC, is blasphemy... They not only can't sing the song great, but they make it so it doesn't offend anyone... the original song is innocent of all things bad, and people with something that crawled up their ass and died are the ones bitching about songs being negative for the kids... yet the don't do anything about rap, and talking about raping hoes, beating bitches or anything else... why is that? Oh yeah I forgot freedom of speech... roll

This country is becoming too touchy felly for my taste, when will the US wake up to what they are doing to themselves and realize they are hurting no one buy themselves in the long run?

Wondering if declaring war on Fanatic Muslims doesn't mean we are attacking the Muslim religion, if it does to the rest of the Muslims, perhaps we should really look more closely at the religion and see what is wrong and why it's allowed to be practiced if all that is, is hate?

So when can I get off this roller coaster and back into the real world, this ride sucks.

Glad to see you're still capable of posting utterly moronic tripe, as usual. A few questions for you:

1) So, who's STOPPING you from saying "Merry Christmas" and what happens when you do?

Can't say it in the work place, I can say it out of it though... and I don't dare say it in the work place unless I want to keep my job.

KingFred wrote:

2) Is it really that horrible to say "Happy Hollidays"? Do you essplode if you say it?

brow don't you mean explode? Meh... in any case it is an annoyance really, it just makes me remember how pathetically PC everyone, or every company has become.

KingFred wrote:

3) What freedom has been curtailed and what governmental force is doing so in regard to your use of "Merry Christmas"?

Notice that the White House didn't give out their traditional Christmas Cards this year? I wonder why...

KingFred wrote:

4) What in hell do you flippin' care if someone rewords "The Gambler"??!? Are you against their "Freedom of Speech" to do so? WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE? HELLO!! It's "The Gambler" fer flip's sakes!!

Simple, I like the song...

I've never met anyone who was so offended by the idea of being considerate to others.

Despite what Rush told you, there isn't a PC conspiracy behind this. It's just people trying to respectful.

Well, I was actually going to respond to pawz' illogical points, but A) there's no point since he's on some other planet and B) one just shouldn't bother.

But I'll just point out this little gem because it oh so well encapsulates trying to discuss stuff with CP:

Beats me. I have a cover of it by Mike Doughty with some words different but I doubt that's the one at issue. Mike Doughty doesn't exactly saturate the airwaves.
