Smiling politely I shake his hand and reassure him that I am sure he will do fine and ask him if he'd like a non-alcoholic beverage.

Er... I'm not going to do much besides lightly scan that big long thing without you putting it into a particular context for me to look into.

There's little apes in Africa that have bisexual orgies right in front of God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. They're also the closest thing to the Missing Link that's been found so far or something. In other words, they explain your usual behavior quite nicely. wink

Re: What ever happened to saying "Merry Christmas?"

Sitting in the airport in Oklahoma City yesterday, I heard a conversation among several people who were seriously offended by "Them" and their attempts to kill Christmas. "They" were blamed for, among other things, forbidding the troops to say Merry Christmas when appearing on TV and firing anyone in the state of Virginia who says Merry Christmas while on the job.

These people were perfectly serious. I thought about saying something, but I really didn't need to miss my flight while being investigated on suspicion of terrorism.

fail to see why the use of future tense in these posts.

It IS a war on 'us'.

I meant specifically "The Gambler."

Yeah. Did Justin Timberlake cover the gambler and make it appropriate for little frat boys, or what?

Dude, you'd feel pretty persecuted too if your religion wasn't represented anywhere at all in government except the White House and a piddly-ass little 99% of Congress and every state legislature besides the vast majority of judges.

Ya' know, it's a damn good thing that Jews run the world and controll all the oil and money, otherwise I'd be worried! wink

As to the Merry Christmas, I think it is entirely appropriate to say "Merry Christmas" to people that you know are Christians and wish a "Happy Holiday" to those you don't know. For me, if someone wishes me a "Merry Christmas", I usually reply "and a Merry Christmas to you too."

'course I also say "Shabbat Shalom" to people wearing a Star of David and buying a Challah on Friday afternoon... so you better not listen to me...tongue

(I also think my kids concerts should be called Christmas concerts since all the songs are either sacred or secular Christmas songs....)

Gaddammit. Next winter Holiday Season, I am camping in front of a computer so I can be a part of the fun. Thus said, "War" on Christmas?...

oppression --
outrage --

So you can't say "Merry Christmas." Big, stinking deal. It sounds to me like you're the one lacking "think" skin.

Re: What ever happened to saying "Merry Christmas?"

I think it's a bit silly that there's so much controversy over this...I mean, when I was 5 I had to beg kids to come to my birthday party, now a whole country is in an uproar about it?

But what's this whole Santa thing about?  I've looked all around the north pole and can't find him.  But I asked Dad and he said, "Of course Santa is real, how else do you think all those presents and that copy of Brokeback Mountain got under the tree?"

That's beside the point though, anyone that doesn't want to celebrate my birthday is going to hell anyway so who cares what they say.

Re: What ever happened to saying "Merry Christmas?"

It seems to me there's plenty of conflicting purposes going on.

First off, for those who see Christmas as a Christian holiday (holy-day) that must be preserved as such; do they really want Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and athiests participating in the Christian trappings of Christmas? That would seem, at best, to be an activity that dilutes the meaning of Christmas, and at worst, subverts its meaning.

Then there's the commercial aspect; insisting that retailers observe the spirit of Christms by wishing people a "merry" one. Again, that seems to me to subvert Christmas as a holy-day. I would have thought that Christmas tradition (secular and religious) would prefer the greeting of "happy holidays" so as to separate the Christian holy-day from the rather crass commercialism that goes on.

So I would think that logically, those who wish to preserve Christmas as a Christian holy-day would prefer the use of "happy holidays" as a generic salutation inasmuch as Christmas itself is a Christian holy-day and its observance should be considered sacred.

And I'd think that Christians would want to preserve separation of church and state so the secular state would keep its hands off holiness. But I'd be wrong there, too.
