New 30G iPod is SUPPOSED to play video....

I just got the 30G iPod this morning and it's SUPPOSED to play video....

but it doesn't.

It'll show album art for videos, video podcasts, etc....but it won't actually play the video. My iTunes does.

I've tried this on my mac that has jaguar AND my mac that has tiger. I'm befuddled

Any ideas?

p.s. A couple of the videos gave me an error message which told me to go to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301461 that page.

Thanks!

Use QuickTime Pro ($30) if you have it already to export the video using the Movie to iPod option.

It will take a while - it all depends on your machine.  You can buy it at www.apple.com/store/

If you don't want to buy it, search www.versiontracker.com for iPod video for alternatives.

Are you going to the videos option and not the music option in the main menu?

It sounds like you're playing a music video as a song rather than the video...

Speaking from experience, this message only comes up when there are videos in iTunes that are not in the right specs.

Try downloading a video from iTunes and see if that works. You can be sure that that is a compatible format.

I did just that and it shows on the iPod in iTunes but can't find it through the iPod itself.

It should be under Videos - TV Shows.

See, I did download that, just to see if it would work, and all I got was album art.

I'm going through the video pathway, not music. This is dumb. Why would I get an iPod with video and buy videos through iTunes if I have to reformat it anyway? That's retarded. It should be easier than this.

I also downloaded a couple of video podcasts from iTunes and it does the same thing. I get no video. Just art. %^&#$*%^&

Re: New 30G iPod is SUPPOSED to play video....

What menu options are you going through to get the video to play?

I'm asking this, because if I go under the MUSIC menu, I get album art, and the audio of the video clip.

If I go under VIDEO menu, I get the actual video playing.

I have a 60GB iPod w/ video, btw.

You don't have to reformat the videos purchased from iTunes.  You may have to reformat video podcasts as it depends on the author of the video to make sure it works.  Most should, some may not.

Re: New 30G iPod is SUPPOSED to play video....

OH, OMG! I think this might be it.

Go to your Videos menu, go to Video Settings, and check if TV Out is set to ON. If it is, turn it off.

Then try playing a video.

edit: lol sorry, I literally woke up with that thought so I was excited to put it down before I forgot.

gosh, it's early...
