Star Wars: Battlefront
Is anyone in [MA] planning on getting Star Wars: Battlefront?
I've been playing a lot of BattleField 1942: Desert Combat (during lunch at work), and I'm kinda liking the game. My son also has SW:BF on Xbox...I'm hoping that the PC/Mac verson has a decent mod/development community.
Anyhow...if anyone's up for it, let me know...I'll buy it if I know there will be some folks to play with.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
I have it for PC.
I never played online, the regular bot gametypes were fun enough for me.
The sequel is looking to be much better... more planets to fight on and much better singleplayer.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
I got it on PC too and if I get DSL soon i'll be playing it online
. Tried playing it on 56k but my PC just sucks with 56k for some reason. Probably will get a Mac version anyways.
Great game, i'm either a guy with a jetpack or a sniper (hey the Rebel sniper chick has a nice butt, can't help it!! Specially running on a 9700 Pro with all the nice shader mapping goodness
).
Btw, anyone else get the Jabba's Palace update for the PC version?

Might get it, if it had been in-store last week, I'd have it right now

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Well, I was able to make a trade deal for the Windows version of SW:BF, so I'll be using that instead.
I feel a little dirty even thinking that, but finances dictate that's the way to go. I'm probably going to be playing UT2K4 on my PC, as well. Of course, that's if I actually get it up and running online anytime soon.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Yeah, prices are just a bit too steep on Mac. Would have been fine when it released but nowdays, PC version being soo much cheaper, might as well. I probably will get a Mac version too but probably for a b-day or something special when I won't have to pay the higher price

You spend the game looking at your own butt?

I'll feel too much like a sellout if I buy and regularly play this game.

Playing it on the PS2 made me feel unStarWarsy, the opposite of a feeling I can get from playing classic Star Wars games on SNES, X-Wing for PC, Shadows of the Empire for N64 or the biggie Jedi Knight series.
It just doesn't feel like Star Wars.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Yeah some of the levels are iffy like that. Plus instead of battling for specific mission goals the only way to win is to control all the bases or kill everyone. Course driving the AT-ST does make up for a lot of things
.
Then theres killing ewoks and gungans

Do you get to control an AT-AT though?

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Yeah you get to control the AT-AT, it moves about as fast as a drunk slug but it has lots of firepower. You can even shoot down the snowspeeders if you lead em right.
Think the PC version you can find new from $20-$30. For used i'd guess $15+. I know I got mine used for $30 awhile back at EB. Wasn't any difference between new and used either other than minus original packaging. Game was in perfect condition.

It just doesn't feel like Star Wars.
Aside from the PS2 version being a slow piece of crap, it is SO totally StarWarsy
Play Geonosis or Hoth; they have the best StarWarsiness IMO.

QFT. I have the PS2 version and it was tough finding a decent server. Then again, I haven't played it in a while.
Endor is also very StarWarsy.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Geonosis is blech to me. Course I didn't like EP2 except for Kamino. If you have a DX9 GPU Kamino looks real sweet!
Yavin was alright except for the Arena for me. Arena is just too Halo/UT. Tatooine was nice too, but the Jabba's Palace add on map was so-so.
Kashyyyk for me had probably some of the most un starwarsy maps. When I think of Kashyyyk I think of the giant trees and such but to be fighting on islands and beaches just didn't feel wookiee enough for me. Course then I saw EP3 and I realized why they did Kashyyyk on the ground and in coastal areas.
Most of the maps are pretty nice tho in their starwarsy feel.

How's third-party/community action on the PC/Mac side of things...does anyone know? Is SW:BF being tweaked and expanded by the mod community?

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
Beats me, only add on map i've gotten is that Jabbas Palace from Lucasarts. Then last times i've looked on the multiplayer servers they have all been stock maps. Plus I haven't even seen any creation tools so unless there are some, I doubt we'll see a lot of add ons.

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront
I'm not usually one to resurrect a zombie, but I just got Battlefront for Xmas and was wondering if anybody is still playing it. Also, does anybody know of a way to change the video resolution to match my PB (1440 x 900)?
