Not a Very Merry Christmas

Dad comes up on the 21st.
Next morning, he has difficulty getting up. But he does.
On the 22nd I go to see Narnia with mi lil' brothers.
Dad is looking even worse.
On the morning of the 23rd - caleb wakes up with a soar throat, dad has got a BAD soar throat. We drive down to bay area - had intended to leave early but left almost at Dark because Dad is just feeling miserable.

Get home - morning of the 24th - I wake up with a headache, dad is totally out of it - two of my little brothers have soar throats. We have Christmas Eve (that's when we open presents - I know most Americans wait until Christmas Morn)

Christmas Day - Dad and Mom are both completely out of it - so I've pretty much got to deal with the cranky kids who are cranky because two of them are also sick.

The 26th - I start to get massive headaches and hot and cold spells, my throat is hurting. I take tylenol once but resist rest of time, let the fever do its thing.

My guess is tomorrow (today) I'm in for a hell of a miserable day - and then it will take a couple days to get better.

Merry Christmas, eh?

Any hot chicks want to stand under the Mistletoe for me?
I promise its a kiss that will last about a weak wink

Re: Not a Very Merry Christmas

Being properly ill at Christmas really must stink. Just think, instead of moping around the house doing nothing, you could be... oh wait - that's what we do anyway. hmm

I've had a horrid cold for the past few weeks. Kinda glad it struck around Christmas actually - it's given me the perfect excuse to stay up in my room, out the way, mixing booze and painkillers. Plus it got me out of all that continental kissing smurf on Christmas day big_smile

Ibuprofen with lager and sherry and white wine and scotch whisky and irish cream is a winning combination. Seriously - beats any traditional cold remedy I know. Obviously they are consumed separately, but the closer together the better.

If the fever is too high, then you've got to take some medicine.

Yes - I agree.
The highest it has gotten for me is 101 - and then it goes down withing half an hour, so the body is still properly regulating that.

I'm not feeling as bad this morning as I was yesterday morning, so maybe my relative youth has spared me compared to my parents.

Re: Not a Very Merry Christmas

Sorry to hear that. My daughter had something similar. It was Strep Throat. She fortunately was over it, thanks to anitbiotics, on the 24th. Luckily we all took ColdFX (I think I even overdosed on ColdFX) and so no one else got sick. The stuff really works. up

Everyone in the house is sick? Somebody needs to go to the doc, FAST, and share their Rx.

Re: Not a Very Merry Christmas

Nine years ago, I went with my family to Australia for Christmas.  We have family who lives there.  There was some sort of 24-hour virus going around the hotel we were staying at.  On Christmas Eve my dad and I were puking in bed with a terrible headache.  On Christmas day, my sister got it.  Oddly enough, my mom never got it even though she was with us the whole time.

Re: Not a Very Merry Christmas

Strep maybe? I had that once; no accompanying head ache or fever, but my throat hurt like hell and no amount of tea and cough drops helped one bit. Then every once in a while I just had to sneeze. Ouch.

Sounds like strep. I've had it four times, only the last two times was I treated in time to prevent the agonizing pain. Definitely not pleasant.http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/Sick-Max.gif

It's not strep - I've had that before and its worse than this.
If it was strep - I definitely would have gone to see a doctor.

I'm mostly better now - ears still hurt when I swallow.

Re: Not a Very Merry Christmas

Strep has lotsa different symptoms, including swollen glands (almost always present), rash, sore throat and fever. You can have differing symptoms each time, or no symptoms at all. The only way to really tell if it's what you have is a throat culture, and antibiotics is the only way to get rid of it. It won't go away on its own.
