To Ryan Gordan: Work being done on UT X as well as UT2K4?
Hey guys. Listen up front I apologize if this might not be TOTALLY K3 or K4 related, but I heard Ryan comes here so I am hoping he sees this.
I was more than overjoyed when I heard you were going to work on and give us an update for UT for Mac OS X. We are currently having to live with the 436x3 release of July 2002.
I know you are active with MANY other projects, including keeping UT2K4 updated, if my information is correct. I am just asking, begging you, if you would please consider just being able to get a release out there for us UTX'ers? I had heard that you have gotten it working, but had an issue with FPS. If you could even only get a new BETA out it would be greatly appreciated by many.
Thank you for listening to my comments Ryan. We are all in your debt for all the work you've done, myself especially.

*Gets down on knees and begs*
I can't even play with my clan in UT because the UT 3 preview is such a load of crap... Fun going from 60 fps (I cap it with vsync...or else it would be 300) to 15 fps just because of a tiny graphics detail...on a Radeon 9800 Pro in a G5 with over a gig of ram... :\
Sigh..can only hope that it will come out soon..been 3 years of patient waiting but now it's just getting rediclious.

There are more current internal builds of UT for os x (also known as UTPG, see www.utpg.org for information on what UTPG is).
Ryan's mac betatest group has seen some versions but they are nowhere close to release. Remember, this is an unpaid all-volunteer effort at this point, and the fixes are not trivial.
For information he has posted on UTPG, you can check out his .plan archives:

You can bet it's still on his agenda.

Yea I know about UTPG, and almost daily check the site. Hell, if I need to join in the betatest group in order to get a new version I guess I'll have to do that.

Has anybody tried running it in classic with OpenGlide?

Meta I just tried doing that myself. It is decent but just..bleh.
First off you got the old OS 9 audio bugs, repitition, dropped audio (even with audio channels set to 32)..etc. Second off you need to do a lot of effort into getting everything working control wise..I still can't get my scroll wheel working but did get my nostromo n50 going. Also the F keys will need either rebinding, or disabling OS X's functions (like expose). Final problem is framerate, running at 1024x768 at decent settings I only get 30-60 fps on my G5 with a radeon 9800, I can only imagine it'd be a lot worse on slower hardware.
The only real reason to do the classic mode thing is to have correct graphics and working music. Other than that, running in classic + OpenGlide isn't worth it. I only use classic mode to take high quality screenshots for now. If you have a dual boot system though..run in OS 9 natively.

*bump*
PS I know I will get some flak (no pun intended) for this but all we ask is for an update. :-(

I have not seen anything but I rather suspect that given the work that will have to be done to get a UT2K7 for Mac UT X is probably a dead issue.

Not just 2K7 but now with the MacTels he's got to get his other games up to speed with UBs (AA and Postal come to mind)

The last UTPG post was in Nov. 04. So between Nov 04 and Feb 05 Ryan learned his UT99 OSX port sucked ass and we haven't heard a word since.
