Re: Mac Protection Plan Questions

Sure.  I don't know for a fact, but I'm sure they would.  It is a standard type of RAM that I'm sure has been used in PCs for some time now.

I personally purchase Crucial memory - never had any issues.

Re: Mac Protection Plan Questions

RAM may not be available until the MacBook is closer to release time. However, you can go to Crucial's site and they have an easy wallk thru to figure out exactly what type you need. Also it will be expensive to begin with if it isn't already readily available.

I settled on and extra 1 GB of RAM on my G5 eyesight iMac, because the 2 GB module was like 8 times more expensive - like $2000 from Apple and $16000 from other vendors. It has gone down considerably, but the mark up is still incredible. 1 GB is $119, and 2 GB is $899! eek

MacBook RAM is listed there, btw. Edit: 200-pin.

Thanks, I was going to wait until Summer to do upgrades such as buy a external Harddrive and RAM.

Re: Mac Protection Plan Questions

Yor Protection plan should come with your MacBook Pro. At least that is what I was told by store saleman where I ordered mine.

As for the battery, here is what the warranty actually says under Limitations:

(ix) Consumable parts, such as batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod or unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials and workmanship;

In other words, they will cover it if it is defective when delivered to you. smile If it's been 'abused' in some way or just run down from use (hence rechargeable), they probably won't replace it for you.
sad

So you get your Macbook Pro shipped out February 15th also?

Re: Mac Protection Plan Questions

It was over a month from the time I ordered my G5 iMac w/ Applecare as part of a package, and the time I received it. After you get the MacBook out of the box and start the battery calibration ritual, call Applecare and they will activate it at that time.

If you didn't buy it when you bought the MacBook, you will have up to a year to do so, but remember it is 3 years from the second you start up the computer, not 3 years from when you activate the extended warranty. Also they know when the MacBooks are shipping, so that is in your favor.

I have an unrelated warranty concern - I got an Airport Extreme at the end of January, anticipating getting my broadband installed the first week of February. Installation has been put back to March, so I don't know when the warranty will take effect.

I certainly hope so! However, I've heard from others that Apple ships to other resellers only after they have fullfilled their own store pre-orders. sad

The store manager says that shouldn't happen with mine since he ordered it 'CTO' from Apple.  I'll know soon.

Re: Mac Protection Plan Questions

My iSight iMac was also a CTO because of the stupid frickin' frackin' usb modem, but it was still shipped a month later. After Apple made the modems a retail item, I might add.
