Meh. I know more emo kids that do drugs than I know sXe kids that like emo. They are into metalcore now, times have changed. And it is being taken to an extreme. In the Ohio area, an organization called Courage Crew pretty much runs the show at any sXe show. I saw throwdown last night, and CxC controlled the pit the entire night, shoving anyone to the floor who entered the open space. Then, someone literally split open their skull after being punched in the face and hitting the ground. The Red Chord stopped in the middle of their set, and they had to cart the guy off on a stretcher. And he wasn't the only one to have a concussion that night, I saw another one where the guy had to be walked out cause he couldn't stand up on his own. Ouch. Yeah, they are pretty scary.

Re: Emo Discussions

When Throwdown played, they had extra security all around the pit. It's the only time I've ever seen security around the stage area, much less around the pit. Usually, all the security guards are running metal detectors and making sure we all have wrist bands (it's connected to an open skate park, so it's really easy to sneak in). For good reason to, since the last time they let guards in the stage area was during Armor For Sleep and From Autumn to Ashes, when they threw a bunch of kids out for just moshing. The security guards they hire don't really know the difference between a fight and a dance pit, so the venue asks them to stay out. This time, they were doing pat downs, were all around the stage, in the pit, and wouldn't even let me wear a white bandanna (Posi Youth Crew anyone?). They really were concerned Throwdown would bring violent skinheads, I guess.

It might have something to do with the Christian influence, but all the scene kids around here are no drugs, no booze. A lot of them smoke ciggs, but don't do drugs at all. In fact, I associate drug use a lot more with polo shirts then I do with girl pants. All the drug addicts and pot heads I know shop at Abercrombie, not thrift stores.

Re: Emo Discussions

Yeah we had the skin heads, that's what CxC identify themselves with. They freaked me out. Most were over 250 lbs too, and wore athletic shorts and a black shirt, had neck tatoos and stood in the middle of the pit the entire show until most of them got kicked out. The biggest one tried to single-handedly stop a circle pit, it was kinda funny.

But the way they ruined the pit for everyone kinda ruined the show for some people, you could tell. I'm not one to throw down, so it only gave me more entertainment until people started getting hurt.

Re: Emo Discussions

What the deal with the pit? Why is it fun to fun around in a pit and collide with people?

If Jack Bauer was in a room with Hitler, Stalin, and Nina Meyers, and he had a gun with 2 bullets, he'd shoot Nina twice.
When life gave Jack Bauer lemons, he used them to kill terrorists. Jack Bauer hates lemonade.

You have NO idea.

Then again, I'm usually side pit, in order to keep people getting out of hand from slamming into those who don't want to be in it. So I stay still and take the 'licks. It's enough to absorb some of that energy.

I'm 6'7" and 220... imagine me in a pit...
furthermore...
Imagine me hardcore dancing.

In response to iJar, like everyone has said, you just have no idea. There is an almost indescribable feeling when in a pit, a feeling that would take so many emo metaphors to describe that I'm not going to even try.

Further more, it's just fun. I've been to concerts where people are just standing or sitting in front of the band. Wheres the fun in that?

Re: Emo Discussions

Has anyone seen Mae live? They are coming to town, but I don't want to waste $12 if they aren't any good. They're playing with Lovedrug, who is amazing live but I've already seen twice, and The Audition, who I have heard good things about but have not actually heard their music.

Anyone want to give some opinions? I am reluctant to go just because people with shaved heads scare me right now, but I don't want to miss out either.

I don't think I can go anymore. But, I am seeing:

Bleeding Through, Between the Buried and Me, Haste The Day (with their new vocalist), and EVERY TIME I DIE!!!!!

Either in Louisville or Cleveland, we will see. But I am so excited, Every Time I Die has almost as much energy as the Blood Brothers...

Re: Emo Discussions

God, I can't WAIT!!!!!
They are coming here.
ETID!!!!
YAYAYAYAYAY!!!

Also, Spring Tour rumors:
Showbread/ He Is Legend (?)
As Cities Burn / UnderOath (??)
Maylene and The Sons Of Disaster / The Chariot / (ew)P.O.D (confirmed, dates to come)

If any of those come to Nashville, I will be very excited. For The Chariot, I would pay 10 dollars to an online ticket, and walk out on P.O.D. I would rather die then listen to them. But... The Chariot!!!

Re: Emo Discussions

I'd love to see Showbread again.

Oh, and I heard Copeland is looking for a director for their next full-length, which they plan to have out by the end of the year. I cannot wait. Not that I'm sick of Beneath Medicine Tree yet, just a new album is always fun.

Re: Emo Discussions

I saw Mae, Lovedrug, and The Audition last night. Lovedrug, even though it was the third time for me, blew me away. I could not believe how passionately they played this time, it was so much better than the last time that I saw them just a couple miles away. They are truly amazing. It was probably one of the top three best performances I have ever seen, up there with the Blood Brothers. Wow. I am still not over it, and it's been 24 hours.

Mae was okay, generic, they let me down I guess. In my opinion they put their music together very well especially in Destination:Beautiful, but they did not sound near as good live. Plus, because they are Mae, I felt like the only person in the entire place not singing along.

And the Audition was just terrible. We do not need another yuppie band to be touring with Lovedrug, we already have one that is headlining. I would have much rather seen Gatsby's American Dream, or Umbrellas, or Denison Witmer, or someone like that.

I really really hope I can see ETID this weekend. We'll see.

I hope for your sake you can. I'm so excited for ETID, from what I hear, they literally tear places apart with the pits they create and the energy they put out.

Re: Emo Discussions

I had some friends go down this Wednesday to Louisville to see it, and they said it was one of the best shows they have ever seen, which is quite impressive from some boys who were skeptical about ETID at first. "Bah, they're too much like the Blood Brothers" kinda wore off after they saw them live. They said that ETID went totally wireless and was crowdsurfing in some part or another during all of their breakdowns. It was at the same venue that had the CxC/sXe problems last week, but luckily only a couple courage crew men showed up, so there was actually a good pit this time from what I hear.

I don't think I can go now. It'll be 8 hours of total driving time, and I am contemplating whether it is worth it or not. Plus, I'll have to request off work, and lose money by not working a 5-hour shift. We'll see though, cause I really do want to see them.

Re: Emo Discussions

Oh man, I really wish I had gone to that now. Let me know how it was.

I am seeing Chiodos in April, and the Early November. Sort of an Emo/Post Harcore/More emo show, but I like Chiodos because their music sounds so much like the Fall of Troy, so they may be good live to. I hope.
