Any suggestions on how to improve performance, or atleast get around the areas on Dantooine would be appreciated.

Downgrading to 10.3.7 will make a big difference.

Talk about night and day! I downgraded (less painfull than I thought it would be) and dantooine runs much better now.

Do you happen to have a saved game from that part that most exhibits the difference in performance? If so, could you e-mail it to me ASAP - brad@aspyr.com. Thanks!

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Hey Brad,

10.3.9 was just released. Do you know if this update is Kotor and 9200 Mobility friendly?

Thanks,
Fabio

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Still crashes with grass enabled in the same area. But after first trying it, seems like performance might just be a lil better. I havent ran it much yet but, looks like Brad was right about the X.3.9.

I haven't tried it under 10.3.9 yet, but I was told a few days ago that 10.3.9 would not have any driver updates from ATI or nVidia. That's not to say that OpenGL itself didn't get updated some, so perhaps there are some improvements that bring KOTOR performance back in line with 10.3.7. If anyone notices an improvement, please let me know.

As for the crash, I've been working with ATI and Apple about that the past few days. No workaround yet other than to disable grass, but we're getting closer to the root cause.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Yeah, even on my brothers PC Dantooine runs terrible. When I look at the map, then go back to the game it goes to horrible framerates. If I save, then load that save game, it usually goes back to playable framerates though.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

What is his specs?

Mine on the PC is rather decent on Dantooine. I'd say between 10-20fps. Its fast enough so the character doesn't skip around due to poor fps but slow enough that I can tell its not super smooth

Specs are: 1.64Ghz Sempron, FX5600 128MB, 512MB RAM

Hey Jeap, I do a stupido big_smile

There is a switch characters button in KOTOR2 which will let you change the save games. So go ahead and knock yourself out in KOTOR2.

Guess I should have read the manual but I was used to KOTOR soo much that I didn't mess with it much.

I am having the same problem on Dantooine, the third time through.  This is my first time having the problem, so it might be due to the upgrade of OX.  I am runnign 3.9, and the player warps all over the place.  I have tried making the graphics crap, but it doesn't work.  Is downgrading easy, as I am downloading my update every couple weeks.  I would really like to get through Dantooine at least.
And, is it possible to give people your games and have them play them on their computer by emailing them their files?

It figures...  So NOW I find this old thread!  I guess I'm not entirely alone!  wink

Well, the Dantooine problems still exist with 10.4.3 and my machine is well over the minimum requirements...

I just got a 12" 1.33ghz iBook with 1gig of ram and the Radeon 9500 (32mb).

It still runs horrible.  Yes it's patched.  Yes, it is better than before.  But honestly, how can a game with a mediocre graphics engine on *lowest* detail not achieve at least continued smooth gameplay.

Oh well.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

The bright side is that there is almost zero performance loss by jacking up all the settings to maximum.  I'm serious.  As long as you're playing with crappy performance, you might as well turn the pretty on.

Re: About the last KOTOR patch...

Yeah, the graphics probably aren't even the problem.  I'm betting it's shoddy level design and coding.

I dunno. . . KotR has a whole lotta stuff to render (specially in outdoor scenes) for a 32MB card; doesn't matter how un-detailed the graphics are if you still have to draw all those shapes.
