Re: Very dissapointed! Apple outsourcing tech sup to India
I am surpise that this is the first Apple support center outside of Cupertina, for example I didn't realize that a Apple user in ar.. Japan(a huge apple market) would have to talk to a a support staff in CA, do they have japanese speaking section in Cupertin? Korean? Hindi? Irish?
Don't indiv sales area such as Asia, Europe have their own support center?

The Irish have their own language?
You're right - they do have other support centers outside of Cupertino. The article is just wrong in that regard.
This is the first tech center in India.

If there were no comprehension barrier I would have no problem with tech support being located anywhere.
It really has nothing to do with India per se, I wouldn’t want to have to deal with a tech with a deep in in the delta Cajun accent either, for one possible north American example.
Indeed, Even If both part have a very good grasp on the technical aspects. If you are not able to understand what is being said there is not decent communication. Without decent communication things become much more of an exercise in frustration and the chance of mistakes being made or things not getting fixed dramatically increases.

Ya, I think Apple is transitioning from a technology company to a fad driven (or fad driving) consumer electronics company.

Actually, if MB38 isn't being sincere, then it'll be irony he's employing, not sarcasm.
He makes a good point though (intentionally or not).
*the good point being about people's bigotted assumption that any technical support based in another country will be inferior, not a good point that white americans should be the ones doing the job.

I think the majority of people's strong opinions about outsourced tech support are based not on racism or bigotry, but rather on their own personal experiences with such "services" in the past.
Lets get one thing clear - companies elect to outsource in order to reduce costs, not to improve their customers' experiences.
Ultimately the telephone is a device that facilitates verbal communication. Therefore the knowledge and willingness to help of a call centre operative pales into insignificance when you can't understand what they say.

Re: Very dissapointed! Apple outsourcing tech sup to India
I have been in charge of many, many dozens of Macs over about 15 years. I believe I have called Apple once... and that was because my 15" PowerBook had been in the shop too many times so they sent me a brand new one.
Am I the only one who doesn't have any reason to call Apple in the first place?? The location of tech support is pretty much a non-issue for me.

Woz then might be right on his comment about iPod and what negative impact on Apple it might have as a "computer-technology" company, each one of us have to ask ourself do we want Apple as a leader in computer/technology, or do we want Apple as a multi-entertainment electronic company.

Yeah, and given the poetic justice in the universe, they will probably now start actually making inroads into more marketshare.

What part of those statement did you found is a cute sarcasm?
I myself found them to be nothing but pure racist remark.
"racist"-discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion, a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others

I knew he was kidding. It was sarcasm with a shade of dark humor. While I personally wouldn't have written it (at least not without a
or a
or some such) I really don't think he's a racist. Again, the reason people here are displeased with India tech support is the simple fact that they (and myself) have had some pretty horrific experiences with them in the past, whereas US-based tech support seems much better. The reason has nothing to do with race, but as others have pointed out, it has to do with the language barrier. It is often difficult to understand the tech support representative and vice-versa, leading to poor quality service. I'm sure that if things were the other way around and US tech support reps were to provide service to people from India, they would be equally displeased with our quality of service.
