Perhaps you should get a check card with a Visa logo.  If you haven't enough funds, the transaction won't go through.

It does for me - and I have to pay an overdraft fee sad

Since no one addressed this originally, I'm going to make lemonade out of samantha674's lemons, i.b.t.l. (I hope).

We never seem to get off of work in time to make it to the bank, so we'll have no food until Saturday, probably. We don't use the debit card because it was screwing us up...(would forget to deduct the transaction) not to mention that you have to take out a minimium of $20.

Bounced checks suck.

Find a bank that has a night deposit drop box, and/or accepts atm deposit. You'll have to use your debit cardfor the last option, but it's for putting money in, and your account is credited immediately (anyway my bank does) - a good thing.

I have my paycheck direct deposited (a home office, but an accounting office, so the boss 'gets' electronnic payments), but anything else I usually use the atm for deposits. If you are leery, try it during banking hours, then go into the bank and ask if it went through without a hitch.
What happens is the atm credits your account when you make the transaction, then the human tellers check the atm machine a couple times a day and process them at the end of the day.

If the atm is down for some reason, I just drop it in the night deposit.

Re: Checks

ATM deposits are usually available the next business day, even if they are foreign checks (not drawn on the same bank), regardless of the amount.

MUCH faster than just depositing a regular check.

Quicken does interface with a lot of banks, so downloading the transactions would be easy - you just have to remember to do it.

Still, bounced checks suck.  Especially when they are something as dumb as:

1.  Wrong date.  The whole next year thing can really screw it up (a check written on 1/1/2005 that should read 1/1/2006 cashed on 1/15/2006 would most likely bounce, due to it being more than one year old.)

2.  Not signing the back - I've had to deal with a lot of people (when I worked in banking) that it happened to.

Re: Checks

Hmm.. to whom do we report our dear Samantha for harassment? I don't appreciate having a year old thread being brought back to life and being called an idiot in the process. Besides, telling people to shut up clearly makes her the fool, not us.

Besides, isn't it against board policy or something to post phone numbers that don't belong to you?

Re: Checks

There's been a couple good posts made since this was brought back to life, but i'm still closing it.

Samantha, if you want to rant about people that can't manage their money, start a new thread, but i'd do it a little more tactfully.
