Need Help......
Well I have been wanting to play WoW at my house ever since my friend, not going to say any names NC, got me the game for Christmas 2005. I could not play it cause I did not not have internet access in my room. So about a couple of months went by and I figured why not by a wireless adapter. So I purchased a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter Model WMP54G for my PC. Later that night I installed it to my PC (yes I know that I have betrayed apple but once I start getting lots of money saved up I will upgrade my MAC)(*points at NC* He made me turn, its his fault) and turned it on and could not wait to go on-line, but the thing is that I was not getting any connection coming through. The next day I turned it on after coming from NC's house and would you not believe it, it conncted through, after playing till 4 a.m. i turned it off. At 9 a.m. I turned it on and was ready to play WoW, but the thing is that it did not connect through and it has been happening for the past few days.
Why is it not working or connecting through???
The internet modem is a Westell VersaLink Model 327W Modem and I have 900MHz cordless phone and I did not think that would cause that much interference. I called Linksys and they put me throught steps and could not figure the problem out and then they told me to contact Westell but i havent got around to call them and plus the number is from New York (long distance call). So can anyone or does anyone have any suggestions??? I would really like some help to get this problem solved. Thanks very much.

Re: Need Help......
The 900 MHz cordless phones operate in the same general frequency range as WiFi. Unplug the phone's base station and take the battery out of the handset. Try again.
It could also be white noise from a nearby electric motor causing interference. Make sure they're off and try again. Common items that have electric motors include refrigerators, central heating / air conditioning units, vacuum cleaners, washers, dryers)
Where are you getting your WiFi connection from? Where's the base station? It sounds like you're connecting your PC from NC's place? You must live very close to him. Tell us about what's between your PC and the base station. Walls, trees, electric motors, most anything other than empty air, will reduce the strength of the WiFi signal.
Perhaps NC would be willing to help make you a Yagi antenna. That would greatly enhance your signal and probably solve the problem. Go look up that Pringle's can home-made hack.
I deleted your duplicate post.

Re: Need Help......
Nah his is a Wireless G setup on 2.4Ghz...900Mhz should be fine, unless the router is an old A setup. Thought that was a G too also. Theres really nothing real interferance causing between him and the router. Heck, hes had it right next to the router and it wouldnt connect. Makes me think its more of a problem with the router and settings in it when I looked at it.

Re: Need Help......
We only have one port in the appt where we can get our cable, and thats completley the opposite end from where the office is (not like its that big, but it still has to run across a couple rooms), and so for a while we just had an ethernet cable running through the house
(although we also had an extension cord doing the same because there are no 110 outlets in the office too...). Worst case scenario you could always ghetto rig it for a while
Its been a while since I thought of it, but wasnt there some kind of legality issue with the whole pringle can/etc modifications of wireless cards?

Apparently there have been kids charged with "possession of a tool for breaking and entering", as lucid as that sounds, by carrying around cantennas.
