For Appleworks Word Processing and Drawing what apps should we start looking into to replace for future when AW gets really dropped? Is it Word and Pages or what?

Hmmm... Try somthing like RagTime (if it's still available for free) or maybe Creator Desktop... You didn't say what you use the drawing module for. Would be helpful to know more.

Yeah, but only on the Mac.
Anyway... Pixel (an image editor, like Appleworks Paint)? I haven't tried it, but I've heard good things.
EazyDraw (vector drawing, like Draw) is also supposed to be good.
As for word processing, try Mellel.

Re: Appleworks for Future?
Try NeoOffice. It's an implementation of OpenOffice.org that uses Java to achieve a much higher degree of native Mac OS X integration than OpenOffice.org, which requires X11 to run on the Mac. That said, the interface isn't very pretty, but it does just about everything MS Office does and doesn't cost a penny. It's based on an older version of OpenOffice.org source code (1.1.5) but developer builds of NeoOffice 2.0 are expected out shortly that will be based on the latest OpenOffice.org 2.0 source code. It's definitely worth checking out and you really have nothing to lose except the time it takes to download it at www.neooffice.org

Re: Appleworks for Future?
Why stop using AppleWorks? Keep your old Mac and use it! I use AppleWorks 5.0 and 6.0 and Classic & X computers here all day. There is certainly no point in updating these as a newer application or computer is simply not going to get the work done faster. Don't fall into the myth that you need the latest thing - are you really going to get you work don faster because an image is flashes on the screen 1000th of a second faster than before?
