No problem. It really is a passion for me. Who else could have written that post?

Yes, a lot of those "foriegn" cars are made in the us but they still have foreign roots. The original ones were desgined and engineered by foreigners. Which makes them better cars. They last longer and require less repairs. I'm sure there will be somebody who will try and argue with me. It's proven. By Consumer Reports and many other organizations. If you're purchasing a new car, I think you'd be stupid to buy anything non "foreign".

I have a Grand Marquis and I love it. It's just about to hit 100k, and it rides like it's brand new.

I was in a Grand Marquis that caught on fire. No one knows for sure why. Solid cars, but they scare me now.

It's a documented fact that the newer models of the Grand Marquis are so comfortable that God Himself is jealous of them. I would guess He set fire to the car out of jealousy. He is a jealous and vengeful God.

Re: Need help deciding on a new family car for parents
Well, I decided to re-activate this post after a long time in the junkyard.
First, I looked at the Buick Lucerne... I couldn't even fit in the puppy. Then, I checked out the Ford Five Hundred. The all-wheel-drive model (Mom wants AWD when available) had subpar mileage (EPA 20 mpg city/26 highway... my Mom wants somewhat higher than that).
So, I figured out that we'll have to go buy one of the Asian brands after all. But, it's not all bad... especially since Toyota, Honda, and the like are still building US/Canada plants like crazy while GM and the like are cutting back (there's a big deal here about how Honda wants to build a new Accord plant in the next county over). In turn, we looked at the Toyota RAV4 once again. I fit great in it, it gets good mileage (EPA 23 city/28 highway with 4WD), it looks good, and it's affordable. Soon, we'll be going back to the local Toyota dealer to take a test-drive and to see if Mom likes it.
BTW, the Toyota dealer told me a little tidbit: there's an easy way to tell where a Toyota Camry was made. The small amount of Camrys made in Aichi, Japan have little roundish covers on the front bumpers that conceal shipping hooks to secure the vehicle during the shipping by sea. OTOH, Camrys made in Georgetown, Kentucky (where most US/Canada models are made) and (starting in early 2007) Lafayette, Indiana don't have the little covers because the US-built models don't need to be shipped by sea.
