iTunes Plugin / Parallel Port

I finally built something that works!

It's an LED lamp, like 300 of them or so, red, green and blue, mounted in a metal collendar. They're in 7 seperate segments controlled by NOR gates operated by 7 of the data pins on the parallel port.

Now the fun stuff. I've got some software written to control it, but I'd really like to use it as a visualizer. Anyone know where to start writing iTunes plugins for PCs and can these plugins interface with hardware?

Re: iTunes Plugin / Parallel Port

I would have thought USB would be the way to go, since that interface is designed to accomodate signals from the audio sub-system. I'd be surprised if  the parallel port is easily adaptable to such output.

Yeah, in a perfect world I'd use usb, but right now that's a little beyond my budget and skill level.

Re: iTunes Plugin / Parallel Port

You need the data at the pins representing some aspect of the sound signal as opposed to packets of streamed data, like print characters or null modem networking, which the parallel  port will accomodate. I don't know if a plug in will allow for that pathway.

This website has just about everything you need to know about input and output through the parallel port.
