Final Cut Pro timeline issues
Please help.
I've been using FCP for several years now (since 1.2) and I've never had this problem.
I let someone else edit some videos on my computer and now that person is gone but I am stuck with this problem:
In the sequence, my video track no longer links to my audio tracks. The individual clips are linked but the tracks aren't. I've tried messing with the source/destination buttons but that doesn't do anything. The names of the clips are underlined showing that they are in fact linked to the audio files. I still cannot get them to select together. If I double-click the video clip it only opens the video clip in the Viewer, there are no tabs for the audio even though the clips show that they are linked. I have to drag select or shift/command select to get the video with the audio so I can move it. I can no longer do slip/slide or roll/ripple edits because the tools no longer affect the video and audio together.
I'm sure it's probably a simple fix. I've looked through the manuals but it just seems so criptic to me. It has always been defaulted to select both of them and I've never had to deal with this. I don't know what setting the other guy changed but now it doesn't work the way it used to and it's frustrating.
Can anyone help?

Most likely the link audio and video button is off.
It's the green button on the left. Toggles between linking and unlinking the video and audio tracks. Your friend probably just hit that button. Should solve your problem

I knew someone would have the answer.
I'm not at work now so I can't check it but I'm sure that's what it is. Thanks for the quick response.
It really is amazing how long you can be working with a program day in and day out and still have so much to learn.

Yep, I'm not at work so I can't check, but I believe Shift + L does the same thing.

See, I'm a visual kind of gal, so I can't keep up with all the keyboard shortcuts. I just click my way through the interface and rely way too heavily on my color coded keyboard. But, I guess I'm just one of those hundreds of editors doing things my own little quirky way.

It's true! I work on the other side of a wall from another editor. Sometimes, I come over and she'd do something, and I'd go, "wait, what did you just do?" She'd show me and right then I've just learned a faster way of doing what I've been doing for years. Then once in a while I'd see her doing something, and I'd go, "you know, you can do the same thing by hitting these keys," and the roles are reversed. In this respect, it's good to work with other editors, because you'll inevitably learn how to work faster.
