A little on the long side for this type of movie but great nonetheless.  I really enjoyed it.

Well, it wasn't bad. Certainly the best sequal in a long time! CG was good and the plot bumbled along from joke to joke. A lot of the humor wasgood as well.

Ninjas of the Caribbean would be a great movie.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

got around to seeing it last night and enjoyed it, but:

did anyone else think it was a bit Empire Strikes Back? i mean: Han spends the whole movie trying to get out from under Jabba's bounty; Luke meets his father; and at the end Han is frozen in carbonite somewhere, while Luke and Leia have to go find him - in the company of Lando. sort of.

and Han and Leia kiss (right before Han gets frozen), though the entire first movie set up Luke and Leia as a couple.

if they're actually (half-)siblings, i'm gonna be pissed.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

damn you know how to f*ck up a movie... not everyone gives a ass rats about star wars..

anyway, I heard all 3 movies were made all at the same time, if thats true then im sure the people that made the second know exactly what the first was about and know what the third will be about...

I thought it was a good movie and i can't wait for the third one to come out.

Edit:

Even tho there is not much plot in this movie, I can bet all my money that this plot is better than Tokyo Drift... I don't think Tokyo drift is worth my money seing in the theaters so I'll wait for it on DVD.

Just to clear it up, what was the deal with the compass the entire movie? The hot girl wants Captain Jack Sparrow?

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

That wasn't consistant to me, either.

***maybe spoilers***
First it didn't work for Jack which wasn't 'splained,
then it worked for Whozit, then it didn't, which was 'splained seconds later, but almost too fast to catch.
And why exactly, was getting ahold of it important to the British Officer Gone Bad? Besides rescuing his reputation and getting his rank back? Why did the DEICo want it so bad? I think that sub-plot line was just to fullfill the actor's contract and give him something to do between sword fights.

What hot girl? Oh, it must be the only female lead. I think she was only playing him at the end to get him to stay on the Pearl, but there is the classic 'bad boy' appeal, that she resists.

My understanding was that the 2nd and 3rd were filmed together or at least consecutively.  But only after the success of the first.

The compas is magical, and points to the thing that the holder wants most.
It worked for Jack, but it wasn't pointing to treasure (or material gain), so it confused him. The viewer does not know what it points to when Jack holds it, so I guess we'll have to watch the next movie!
When Elizabeth held it, it pointed to Jack insted of William, which confused her.
The x-comodore wants it so he can find "The Dead Man's Chest", and use it to
restore his honor, rank, and position.

I liked the movie, overall, and I know it's a small thing to quibble over in a movie about ghosts and octopus-men, ect.; but...

I don't think there were headhunters in the Caribbean. I think they were in the south Pacific.

Am I right?smile

the movie was okay.  bit dissapointing to have sat there for 2 hours and not get a full story though.

It's been awhile since I've seen the first one, I forgot about the undead/skeleton thing. I'll have to watch them both in succession when "Chest" is out on DVD.

I thought it was slightly better than "meh". 3.5 stars out of 5.

What part did you guys miss? The compass always points to what the person want's most. When jack held it it didn't point at anything in particular. It just went crazy pointing back and forth and to and fro. When he went to see that hot chick with the nasty teeth she laughed at him and told him it didn't work because he doesn't know what he wants. When Elizabeth holds it it points to what Jack has convinced her to be the way to get Will back (the chest)...except for that one time when she's horny and what she really wants is to jump Jack's bones, but that's just there for a giggle.

...and that Empire reference is right on. No, I hadn't noticed.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

***spoilers***

I thought the movie was so-so. First of all, I was dissapointed how they blatantly cashed in on the first movie. From the beginning to the end the movie was filled with easily recognizable first movie flash backs (eg the captain biting into the apple at the end, "why is the rum always gone" at the beginning). The plot had way too much going on in it, here are the plot lines I can think of: East India Company (never resolved) Jack's problem, Williams father, the love affair between elizabeth and jack, the kraken, davy jones, etc etc. I think they should have focused on a few. That being said, the action in the movie (with the exception of jack fighting the kraken in the end) was very good. The threeway fight was incredible, the kraken attacking the ship happened ridiculously fast and was very cool. However, jack heroicly in front of the kraken at the end looked like smurf. It looked like a straight up green screen, horribly fake.
The costumes for davy jones men were incredible, well thought out and detailed. Keira Knightly wasnt hot at all, she looked like a little boy. Also, the voodoo woman was very well done, from her home to her make up to her acting.
Clearly the movie was just filler between the first and the last. However, I think it made for quite an enjoyable (albeit long) summer popcorn flick.

well, duh. didn't you get the (woman on a ship) = (bad) thing? it's featured in both movies so far. she was just in disguise, and then didn't have a chance to change clothes.

and Keira is always hot. it's her facial structure. doesn't really matter how she's dressed. did you see the crap she was wearing in King Arthur?
