LaserWriter Networking
I have a LaserWriter 320 hooked up to a Wallstreet powerbook via Serial port. I would like to find out how to print to this printer from my G4 tower and other computers. They are all connected on an ethernet network, I just need to figure out how to make it a netowork printer. Thanks for your help.

Re: LaserWriter Networking
OS information would be helpful.
If you are running OS 9, you need to download the Localtalk to Ethernet bridge from apple. Then you should be able to select the printer in the chooser.
Hope that helps!

Re: LaserWriter Networking
The Wallstreet is running OS 9.2. It prints fine to the LaserWriter thru Serial port. The G4 is running Tiger. They are both hooked up to an ethernet network. Is there some way I can share the printer on the Wallstreet and allow other computers on the network to print to it?

Re: LaserWriter Networking
See, your laserwriter is a Localtalk-only printer, so you're actually networked to it. The serial cable there is functioning like a crossover cable would. You need software running on the Wallstreet to bridge the two networks.

That is what farmallboy was talking about. It will work.

Re: LaserWriter Networking
p.s. - You didn't mention whether your G4 was running OS 9 or OS X, and I don't know if it will work when the client machine runs X. I've done it with a mixed OS 8 / OS 9 network, though. Also had a game of StarCraft going.

In his second post he mentioned it was running Tiger (10.4).

Re: LaserWriter Networking
Ah, so he did.
Commence the experimentation!
edit: Tiger on my mini supports Appletalk, so I'm guessing you're in the clear. I don't have a Localtalk Laserwriter to test it with anymore, though.
