External Display Only on MacBook Pro
I have just got my hands on a 30 inch Cinema Display and want to use it with my MacBook Pro. I don't really need the display on my MacBook Pro to run while I am using but I can't work out how to run just the one screen at a time.
So how do I do it?

Re: External Display Only on MacBook Pro
I only have iBook experience, but there I turn down the brightness all the way. And when there is an external monitor attached, it goes off!

Re: External Display Only on MacBook Pro
1. Turn on computer with ps/kb/mouse connect.
2. Both panel should turn on with different resolution.
3. Close lid on mbp and it will go to sleep mode.
4. click on any key and only the external lcd will come up.
I am pretty certain that you have to have a external kb/mouse in order for it to work, it is all in that menu.

pcguy is right...but remember, with the lid closed it will get REALLY hot and possibly cause damage, so be careful.

You can actually skip steps 2,3, and 4. All you need to do is close the lid after pressing the power button. The Macbook Pro will automatically boot to the external display. Also the lid does not need to remain closed. It can be opened back up for air circulation.

Actually the temp is very similar with lid open or close, the vent on this computer is at the back and not thru kb. my mbp run between 50-60's just about 99% of the time with lid close and hook up to external panel.

Re: External Display Only on MacBook Pro
I run my MBP closed all the time. Even playing Quake 4 or Doom 3.
It does get hot, but that can be alleviated by any of a number of laptop cooling solutions.
I use a Targus thing that just elevates the machine off the desk, but some have fans and all kind of other solutions.
But yeah, with an external keyboard and mouse, just open, press power button and close.
It will automatically fire up the external display and you can just run with from there.
