New SG1 packaging
I noticed the other day that Stargate SG1 is now being sold in different packaging, much smaller than what they use to sell them in. I have the big fat packaging for season 1-8 but I'm contemplating selling them all and buying the smaller packaging so it takes less space.
But are the special features the same? Does anyone know of difference other than the packaging?
I haven't looked at the special features on any of mine yet, I'd hate to sell them only to regret it.

Actually yes. The new packaging is like the Stargate Atlantis packaging. It is consiberably less space.
I don't have a lot of DVDs - my DVD case has four shelves. Stargate takes up more than one of those shelves, more than 25% of my capacity. The new packaging, it would take less than 1 shelf.
Three seasons of the new packaging takes the same amount of space as one season of the old packaging. That's a considerable amount additional space, and will allow me to continue to use the same bookshelf I have now for DVDs for quite some time w/o needing to buy another one (thus saving wall space).
But it isn't worth doing if they changed the content, because I haven't bothered yet to watch the bonus material yet.

I don't understand how you people have enough free time to watch episodes of TV shows. I would kill to be able to do that.

Initially I was buying them because I did not have cable, so it was the only way I could watch it at all.
I got cable last year, well, last december - but by the time I already had SG1 season 1-8 and SGA season 1 - (sg1 season 9 and sga season 2 are not out in USA).
Most of the DVDs I've only watched a couple of times. But when in the mood, it's nice to be able to pick an episode and watch it - especially when a current SG1 episode builds on something that happened several seasons ago.

There are many people who would wish they had the time to make over 1400 posts on an internet forum. They would kill to be able to do that.
Different strokes for different folks.
I'm considering whether to swap my Farscape sets for the Starburst editions. --Not exactly the same thing though since the Starburst editions have more features.

1400 posts for someone who joined in 2001 is not a huge amount.

Likewise, a couple hundred hours of TV is not a huge amount when spread over 10 years.

They've also done the same with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and X-Files, but I do believe that the X-Files do come sans special features.

Actually, I think the reason is shelf space.
Local shopko use to only stock one of each season because of shelf space, meaning frequently - they were out of stock on several of the seasons. Now they can stock several copies of each season.

They've got DVD players that have divx decoders, it would seem that it wouldn't be that hard to put a ethernet port on them.
