Oo, nice update.  The WF/V update is worth its weight in code!

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

But for some reason, FCP won't update past 5.0.4...?

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

MB38...you need to purchase the Universal Upgrade first.  You need to buy 5.1.  THEN you can get to 5.1.2.  Get it now while it is cheap.

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

Why would I have to buy it if I don't have an Intel Mac?

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

Nah, I received my copy of FCS internally from Apple with a "NFR" serial number and no discs [internal versions go out via a file server].  So while I legally own the copy and it's registered in my name, I don't have the discs to go with it.  Since I'm no longer an Apple employee, I don't have access to the aforementioned servers.

This sucks.

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

YOu don't need an intel mac to run that version of FCP.  I am running it on a PCI-x machine.  It is called the CROSSGRADE for a reason.  It works on PPC Macs and Intel macs.

MB..looks like you are gonna have to buy a full version.  That is the only way to get the updates.

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

I know, I know, it just seemed like the update should only cost money if it actually requires the discs.  I know the discs have both the PPC and Intel versions on there... but a simple update to the existing PPC version is all I should technically need.  Version 5.1 wasn't a complete overhaul for the PPC, it was an update.

That said, as I'm legally entitled to it, I'll probably just have an Apple employee download the new version for me.

Entitled?  How are you entitled to it?  Work for Apple?

5.1 offers MANY improvements.  And 5.1.2 really shouldn't be a .0.1 update, but really should be a 5.2 update, as it adds A LOT.

5.1 offered not only cross compatibility, but a better Media Manager (but it still cannot handle speed changes and freeze frames), better P2 import capability and tons of other minor things.  To tell the truth, going from 5.1.1 to 5.1.2 was a larger upgrade than 5.0.4 to 5.1.  So now that 5.1.2 is out, it is REALLY worth the upgrade.

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

Oh....SWEET!

Then you are entitled...depending on what you do for them.  I worked for Apple back in 1995 doing tech support and I didn't get anything free.  Until their consumer level Avid editing software came out (forget the name) and I was asked to be the head support guy for that.  So I received a copy and a computer (Quadra 6410 I think) to play with it.  But they were loaners only.  I had to give them back.

Re: FCP 5.1.2 released

Yeah, I was given the software for creative and tech-support reasons.  Long story, full of stuff I can't talk about.  Not all employees are "entitled" to Apple software.  Basically, Apple has my name linked to a handful of serial numbers in their system somewhere - they know I have it because they gave it to me.

I don't really know what I'm grumbly about at this point.  It's a problem I can solve for myself quite easily.
