Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
I still subscribe to MA, and I'm excited to see the new MacLife. I just hope you keep Log Out, Shut Down, Staff Rants, all the things that set MacAddict apart from more serious computer magazines. I've always hated macworld and desperately hope MA doesn't turn into that. And whatever you do, DON'T get rid of Max.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
I come back to the forums for the first time in months... and THIS awaits me? I'm sad...
Going on record here:
1) MacAddict is by far the name I like better.
2) I would never blind buy or blind subscribe to MacLife (which is how I first got MacAddict). The name says "plain vanilla, made for new users" the way MacHome does (and is). Even MacWorld doesn't make me think "for new users" like the MacLife and MacHome names do.
3) I refuse to become MacLife4Life. I will be MacAddict4Life4Life. (Uh, not saying I'm changing my name to that, saying my name will remain the same for the duration of life).
That is all.

If you don't like the name MacLife suggest a better name here:

MacLife is fine with me.
Mac|Life is not. I despise using non-alphanumerics in a name. It causes great difficulty with data entry.
Power Mac 1.8GHz SP, 4GB RAM, 80+300 GB disks
iMac 2.16GHz, 24-inch, 2GB RAM, 500GB disk

I hate to squash your conspiracy theories (well, actually, I don't hate to squash ’em...), but here's the unvarnished truth:
1. We're changing our name.
2. We're getting getting more pages (read: more editorial content).
3. We're getting a new, more up-to-date design.
3. We're getting a new editor in chief.
4. Having been a Mac editor for 17 years, I wanted a new gig, which I asked for and received.
5. All is well.
All true.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
oh please, i can't believe you people. sure i'll miss getting macaddict in the mail, but i look forward to maclife, thats because thats what i have, the mac is the center of my life at home (well, second to my son anyway). change comes. there is no stopping it. so i feel that instead of moaning like a bunch of babies, lets show how much we love macs, and the staff of macaddict and support them in this change. instead of making them feel bad about a change i'm sure they don't have much control over, lets ask them meaning full questions about the new mag, you know, the kinds of deep questions they are used to trying to get answers from apple on regarding new stuff. let them have fun trying to tell us as much as possible while keeping it hush hush. i sertainly hope the format doesn't change too much, just adding more to it. so far with every change the mag has gone through, i've liked it better. its not as boring as macword (it has way too much text, and not enouph pictures and fun stuff, aka niko), but i do find cool things in it every month. stuff that even makes my pc buddies go wow. so, macaddict, soon to be maclife, keep up the good work. rik, i'll miss reading your editorial, but good luck in your new path. this mag ROCKS!

Who said anything about your post counts being zeroed out? That sounds like a lousy idea to me -- I'll do what I can to make sure it doesn't happen.

I mentioned it off-hand. Like other moronic posts in here, it's taking the minute details of what's being said in order to make a snarky jab rather than stepping back 10 years and having a look at the big picture.

I sure hope there will be legacy support for the old MacAddicts - but if form holds true that probably won't last forever. It will be dropped when the publication switches to TimeWarner!

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
I certainly like the idea of more pages of content! Each MacAddict takes me about a day to get through, whereas a thicker magazine like Wired takes me around a week. I've often wished MA were a lot longer, so I'm looking forward to ML.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
Awww, gee. Changing the name is one of the biggest disappointments I've heard about in a very long time. Almost as disappointing as when I received an email from Apple stating they had canceled my order for a new G4 400 telling me I could order a 350 for the same price instead.
WHY would you do such as thing? I'm not sure I want to subscribe to Maclife magazine.
Keep the name MacAddict.
I still have all the CDs that came with my MacAddict Magazines, even the one from the first issue I bought at the grocery store.
Please don't change the name.

Keep Max.
Please, reread the originals. There was a spark there, and it was the reason that this has been my most visted site ever since I joined. The spark has since faded from the magazine, but a dying trace of it still remains on this forum. Please, take a look at the offshoots of this forum: www.clubhouse54.com and www.appleaddict.com
Relax, have voice, and have fun.

Ya know, you guys really need to give it a chance. Some of you are condemning the change before the first issue under the new name goes to press. I admittedly don't like change, and i prefer the current name, but at least i'm going to give it a chance.

I plan to give the new magazine a chance. I just don't like the new name. The other changes are okay if it doesn't become MacWorld with a MacLife label.

I don't know... generally name changes are things that get picked up on fast and a really negative impression doesn't get altered. I mean look at the MacBook Pro. Still a terrible name.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?
If I'm a n00b to Mac mags, the first thing I would think of upon seeing the name MacAddict, is that it's written by a cult of extremely biased Mac geeks, who instantly accept Apple's benchmarks as fact and spend 1 hour each morning kneeling silently before a bobble-head figure of Steve Jobs. This assumption, however exaggerated, is not entirely unreasonable. I have several sample copies of various magazines (now-deceased) from NY MW Expos, where all they do is trash-talk the PC and claim that the G4 is faster than a P4 because "Apple says so" in their infamous Photoshop action test.
MacAddict is different. MacAddict is, and always has been, an intelligent and non-partial source of Mac news, reviews, wow-to's, bizarre hacks, and witty remarks. I personally have grown accustomed to the name MacAddict, but times have changed, and the name MacAddict just isn't all that inviting to the growing population of switchers in recent years. Face it people, times change, and you've got to change with them.
I patiently await the barrage of hipocracy accusations from those who recall how I feel about Apple's history with backwards compatibility.
Here's to you Rik, Niko, Susie, Roman, Mark, Peter and Max. Best of luck.

If you are not a n00b do not presume to speak in behalf of n00bs.

Interesting. Recently a co-worker saw me looking at MacAddict Forums and said "hey, you're a Mac addict? I've been looking at a Mac laptop but I'm not sure about it. Can you convince me?"

There weren't any Mac oriented Mags back when I was a n00b

Hey, I'm no marketing whiz, and surely people will respond differently to the name. BTW, were you able to convince said co-worker.

The first Apple I used was a IIc, when IIc's were brand new and the smurf, so-Ya.
