I'm having a difficult time drawing any comparison between Iraq and the events leading to the Civil War, even for the purposes of your example...

No, because the terrists don't have brilliantly-led armies at the gats of Washington D.C. Or any armies at all.

e.g., "Certainly Bush's steps were preferable to a terrist' vicotry"

Man you're stretching in your comparisons in a huge way. I see no similarities whatsoever between the Civil War and the present goings-on.

And, yup, I already said that I was off base on Reconstruction.  But, the prison camps, habeus corpus, Lincoln's fairly crass use of the slavery issue for other ends, and his general laying of the foundations of the Imperial Presidency are what knock him off of my list.

It was a Civil War. There is a line, of course, and it can be debated whether he crossed it. However claims of "imperial presidency" are off-base. Power does become concentrated during wartime, there's simply no way to avoid it. The question is what happens after the shooting stops. In the event, the office of the presidency became vastly trimmed after the Civil War, and I see no reason to believe Lincoln would've tried to hold on to those powers.

Don't you think that's a poor choice of wording?

The text of the Constitution acknowledges that habeus corpus can be suspended...

Ahh, I see what you're saying.

That's interesting.  I haven't read the whole thing yet.

No doubt, your legacy may be a little seedier than you'd like.
But even though you've done some questionable things, you're still loved by almost all.

Given that the term "modern" doesn't allow much room for any decent selection, I'm not sure the quiz is of any value.

Jelly Beans got me JFK, but I think my All American upbringing and equal rights for all trumped my food.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
