However (and not from the other thread)... would Lieberman take it? He'd have to carefully weigh the pros and cons. The cons may come out ahead.

Seems to me that, as a regular joe, he's actually more in danger of having to testify.

If lieberman switched, it would indicate he was either moving to another state, or retiring.
He would not be elected again as a republican in CT.
He's not going to switch though. He is a democrat, and he is in agreement with democrats on vast majority of issues. Disagreement on one issue (Iraq) does not make him a republican any more than my disagreement with repubs on some issues make me a democrat.

Old Shoeless could use it as a threat to keep the Dems from simply tossing him aside.

He's stated he is going to the Democrat caucus. Back in 2000 when a republican switched sides - guess what happened. He was no longer listed as republican, he was listed as democrat. Not only that, but majority power changed, etc.
He's going to join with the democrat caucus - and they (dems) would be stupid to not let him, as every seat counts - not just for now, but for 2008 as well. Yes, the dems will be extremely supportive of him.

They didn't force it. It would have been bad for Bush not to do it, but if Bush decided to keep him - dems couldn't have done anything about it.
Oh - with your very literal definition of change, they deliver on a "Change in Washington" just by being elected.
