Grant Steve Jobs His Visionary New Home!
It is past time for Steve Jobs to exercise his vision for a new home before his family grows much older and his children move on with their lives. Who can imagine how his vision for a 21st century minimalist domicile maybe influenced along the way by the Apple retail experience? Would others consider an Appleesque designed Machome? Consider how the Mac print press could leverage their offerings with examples of new lifestyle surroundings. A whole new advertising realm could spring up. Consider MacDirectory Magazine as a lifestyle example for show casing architectural and decorating themes.
May we wish Steve an early 52nd birthday surprise with the demise of the obstructionists of his former abode.

I have to assume his dream home is cubical.

It's a historical site, so he can't tear it down. He's been trying to sell it for years, I think, but no-one wants it.

Oh for crying out loud.
All Steve needs to do - set up a few of those powerbooks using some of those bricks that they recalled.
Make sure family is good distance away.
Once the house is ashes, he can build whatever he wants there.

Steve bought the Jackling House in the early 1980s with the intent to construct another home in its place. Do you really believe the existing structure built in the 1920s, 60+ years when SJ purchased it, is an historic relic deserving to be saved?
In the mean time it sits empty, deteriorating and costing about $30K+ a year in taxes. A new home will increase the assessment value and contribute more taxes to the community. Besides, it can be added to the list of sites to see when making obligatory pilgrimage to The Mothership. Why is common sense in such short supply. SJ won't be with us forever.

So, because he wanted to destroy a historical house 25 years ago, that justifies destroying the now considerably older historical house today? He should simple sell it to someone who will restore it.

As I said, nobody wants to buy it. The only people parading about, saying it must be saved, are too poor to buy it themselves. They're just making life hard for the rich people.

After reading into this I changed I have decided the anti-demolishion people are full of smurf. At first I took it as a situation of preserving the look and feel of a historic neighborhood by keeping the old homes rather than allowing what may be aesthetically clashing modern construction.
But the issue seems to surround the house it's self, a rather unremarkable example of it's type. If its OK to move the house rather than restore in place then it's not important enough to worry about.
Screw it, tear the sucker down.

I'm somewhat annoyed by people who start protests and stuff to prevent the replacement of a crappy building with a useful one just because it is old. I'm more ranting about past examples that I'm aware of (I've seen people trying to save the equivalent of a trailer attached to a school because it was "historical," you try to take class in a trailer).

Yeah - the church I go to in the Bay Area can't tear down the barn or farm house on the property because they are historical. The farm house is a kit house from Sears. The farmer literally ordered it from a Sears Catalog and had it delivered. And it is historically signifigant how?
The Barn I can understand.

Anyway - when they built the expansion of the church, they had to move the farm house because it was in the way. However, moving it required permits. Permits required that it be updated. So now - it is a historical farm house ordered from a Sears Catalog with modern 3 prong wiring and circuit breakers that trip when they sense an arc coming - and a modern wheel chair ramp, since it is owned by a church it has to be wheelchair accessible (they had to build the ramp to get the permit to move it).
