Re: Wii stake out - when are you heading into line?
It's rather irritating that Nintendo changed their website to show that component cables were back in stock and ready to ship but upon placing an order the invoice reflects that they're "backordered."

Mostly because immediately when they show up they're attached to those previously backordered and poof. It took about a week between order and delivery for me.

I just got my component cables today. I really like the increased brightness and clarity but the "jaggies" seem sharper than my Gamecube.
Maybe it's just Zelda....

Zelda isn't antialiased on Wii?

Nintendo of Japan apologizes for lack of component cables

Don't go thinking they care about the fuzziness of your American screens, this is a Japan thing. Nintendo of Japan's official site apologized for the lack of "D terminal" component cables (Japan has two types of component cable), leaving this blogger with just such a fuzzy screen. It's hard to complain too much though, what with the Japanese Wii launch being such a painless endeavor. [img->]

Even more on airborne Wiimotes. We may need to hire more air traffic controllers.
By MSN Money staff
Nintendo's Wii game console isn't just flying off store shelves -- it's flying out of players' hands.
The game company's president announced Thursday that the company was investigating reports that players were losing control of the game's remote, causing it to crash into nearby television screens, ceiling fans, even windows and dishes.
The system's weak point is, ironically, its unique selling point: a motion-sensitive controller that's waved like a wand as players participate in video swordfights, bowling, golf or tennis.
But apparently, some gamers aren't wearing the controller's strap around their wrists or are wearing it too loosely.
There are even some reports that the strap is prone to tearing without notice.
Multiple reports have surfaced of out-of-control Wii accidents; the Web site Wii Have a Problem is keeping a running tally.
Communicating with customers
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata acknowledged Thursday that the company may indeed have a problem."Some people are getting a lot more excited than we'd expected," Iwata told the Mainichi Daily News in Japan. "We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment."
The company sent an e-mail to new owners this week reiterating the need to wear the strap properly. The company has not decided on any specific measures to change the strap, Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said.

Duct tape your hand to the controller.

I can't say I'm surprised. I finally got to play the thing for a few hours last night. The lanyard seemed skimpy and the wrist adjustment thingy kept loosening up during motion. I can see where boxing or tennis would cause you to huck the Wiimote into the TV.
Yet, aside from the crappy lanyard, the Wii was quite fun.

I bet Nintendo is now realizing how big a market HD gamers are.

Probably still not worth it in their opinion to make a $400 box and lose the family segment all because MS and Sony decided to force the HD era.

Totally. I don't think they're regretting any decision at this point.

Ouch. I think people were trained to ignore the warning info by the "do not play games for more than an hour or your hands will fall off" stuff so now they are ignoring legitimate warnings.

They have a warning against hitting someone in the eye with a Wiimote?

Warning people to be careful about not tossing a Wiimote it like warning people not to get in a car accident. It's going to happen. Heck, I almost caused some damage while boxing yesterday
"here, hold this remote, and tie this piece of floss around your wrist. Now get excited, jump around, maybe have a beer or two, and wave your hands in the air."

Would you really want to be the someone who gets to say "I got my Wii from Dr Phil?"
