Oh please. There are plenty of Jews in Congress. They don't have to swear on a book they don't believe in, do they?

Well, that's a given because Jews control the world.

How is it that anybody, anywhere, ever listens to a man so incredibly stupid? Its really quite remarkable.
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.

When I was sworn in to the Army, and took my commision, I did not do so upon a bible, or any religious tome. I was asked to raise my right hand, and repeat the oath of office. Must have been official, I got paid for it.

I may be up for grand jury duty next year.
I wonder if you have to oath for that? I suppose I could put my hand on a bible but it would have no signifigance for me.

Even a layman can read the constitution and know that there is no case and no court needed to decide anything here. Might be nice though to put idiots like these in jail for criminal stupidity. Better yet, make it a capital offense.

Well, I would have thought that "One Nation Under God" as a national motto was a really obvious violation of the Constitution, but, apparently I'm wrong.

"Under God" in the Pledge sucks, too, but I think the whole idea of a "pledge" sucks even harder.

So if a Pastafarian takes office, does s/he swear on a plate of linguini?

Actually, they swear all the incoming congressmen inmasse. They all stand around like a bunch of military recruits, raise their right hand, and take the oath of office. They can swear on whatever they wish.

The deliberate niavity of that sort of ever so contrived cynicism is really sad in the extent of its denial.
Do you really think that no one actually believes awfull, things sincerely?
I see this type of remark quite alot the last few years and it makes me wonder. Has our materialism lead us to such a poverty stricken world view that we have come to believe no one believes anything anymore?
Hate someone for the beliefs they declare to hold, not the greed you hope is their real motivation.

nah, res, they got their money worth. My hearing is shot, and I get the chills whenever the wind blows cold from being wet and cold a lot.
Besides, they won't pay medical for the hearing loss, and I won't be collecting retirement pay from the govt.

Is it really materialism?
A frequent liberal critique of the Soviet Union used to be that their scientific output was filtered by an ideological bias-- as if the establishment first checked whether the scientist was a good communist, and whether the experimental results were consistent with Marxist thought. (I relieved much boredom wandering the stacks of my college library, so please forgive me if the argument seems shallow.) It seems to me that a materialist would be concerned fist and foremost with the results themselves, and not any imaginary ideological defects that might have biased these results.
Some subjects actually enjoy pain, and withhold information they might otherwise have divulged in order to be punished.
