Postage due

I  mailed out 2 Xmas cards and one was returned for postage due. I'm expecting the other returned shortly. What pisses me off is they cancelled the postage that was on the envelope, so not only do i have to resend with the correct postage, but i can't use the stamps that were originally on it. mad

Why not?   People in my office do that all the time and they just add the missing amount to the same envelope and it turns out fine.

I imagine they do that to recoup costs it takes to handle returned mail. shrug

Re: Postage due

You're really going to wait in line at the post office for Dog knows how long during the holiday rush just to save $0.39?

It was 2 letters than had 2 stamps each on them and still wasn't enough. At least not enough for one of them. Besides, i work an offshift. I can go pretty much anytime. PO is around the corner.

I wouldn't go near a post office for the next month, no matter what time of day it is.

Re: Postage due

I went to the Post Office this AM and there were 3 clerks helping 4 customers so it didn't take long at all.

Re: Postage due

Just put $2.00 worth of stamps on it and let it fly.

What are you mailing Justine, a christmas brick?

That's good.   We don't cross out the postage due stamp and the mail is delivered.   Must be slight differences between postal clerks.  No wonder they drive people crazy.

He said if it isn't crossed out, another carrier/clerk will think it still needs more postage without checking.

Re: Postage due

If you do not put a return address on them , They would  not be returned

What does that have to do with getting mail returned due to insufficient postage? If there wasn't a return address, i wouldn't have gotten it back.

Re: Postage due

I think there is some law that if there is no return address, the USPS is required to get it to it's destination. Of course, it would be still be postage due, but it would get to it's destination.

As far as i know, our postal laws end at the border, and my 2 pieces of mail were leaving the country.

Re: Postage due

I always have the post office figure out postage for mail leaving the country. Unless I am mailing something regularly, and it is always the same, size and weight-wise.
If you have a scale, you could probably figure it out online nowadays.
