speakers gone?

Yesterday I was listening to iTunes via earphones. Today when I went to play iTunes I was not getting any sound. A trip to Sound control panel showed the output was on earphones, but there was no option to select speakers. Restart did not solve the problem.

I have a 1st generation 12" Powerbook, running 10.4. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: speakers gone?

plug and unplug the headphones? See if it resets or something? That seems really weird.

Re: speakers gone?

OK, tried that. Did it several times and sort of rooted around in the jack with the plug and now the speakers work.  The thing that switches off the speakers when you plug in earphones must have got stuck.

Tnx
