The total lack of Sony Ego.

Ego doesn't make it look any worse on the TV. Stunted capacity does.
They're both saturated with movie industry ego anyway, so Sony's doesn't make much of a difference to me.

Indeed
Of course this will all probably be moot a couple years down the road when HVD (Holographic Versatile Disk), Tapestry Media, and/or PCD (Protein Coated Disk) will be competing to replace whatever survives this round of the format wars.

I don't know, I just like the companies that I buy products from to be, I don't know - moral. Sony has shown on numerous occasions this is not the case - far more then any other company that I can think of.

Actually I like them both and use both of their products daily. I can't understand how people could hate companies/manufacturers with such a passion.

One word: Word.
That's a fine example of how I can hate some of the manufacturers with such a passion.

I can dislike each and I don't feel like putting a relative value on that dislike.
I know from past history that Sony backed formats are a bad bet and I think it is a damn shame that Apple chose to back the wrong horse but they did. No getting around it, Jobs screwed the pooch on this one.

Sounds like business as usual, they have been doing that since the original 68k processor.
Don't sweat it though cause Steve will just announce at a keynote a couple of years down the road that the mac he has been using contains an HDDVD drive and you'll have reason to upgrade

Hate is not strong enough a word. Forget these media, computer companies. They have not killed anyone with their products as far as i know. However, pharmaceutical companies have ACTUALLY KILLED people with their drugs. If pharmaceuticals were real persons, they'd poison their mothers to make a buck. EVIL , just plain evil.

The EPA standards for drinking water were set to for a mortality rate of something like 1 person in 10 million who drink the water for 50 years. Zero deaths is not technically feasible in just about all areas. There are risks in everything.

That is kind of harsh. From an purely engineering standpoint the 680xx was a far better chip than what Intel had. For that matter, so is the PowerPC. But whatever, it doesn't really matter anymore.
Sony backed formats fail, maybe on the consumer side they do, but not on the pro side. BetacamSP has been the mainstay of professional video for a long long time, and people still use it.
Blu-ray will probably have more backing from video professionals.

Agreed. I meant to add to my post that Apple usually picks the better technology from a purely technical standpoint. They bomb on picking the ones that win long term in the market and just add the tech later or transition on over at some point.
No big deal and they are still in business so its all worked out.

Sony PS3 Rush, anyone?
I really don't like either of them, and try to avoid buying their products at all (many, many, cheaper, and better alternatives out there... But they defenitaly aren't on the top of my list, just those two we see more in the mainstream.

Fair enough. Woz actually mentions Steve's ability to pick future tech in his new book, iWoz.

He'd actually more likely admit that computers that already shipped had an hddvd drive and they'll sell you an updater that activates it.
Anyway, Jobs did push USB (remove of the floppy is arguable).
But yeah, Apple seems to have a knack for picking losing tech sometimes (DVD-RAM over Combo drives).

Actually the USB thing is another example of Jobs getting it wrong. He pushed hard for an immature standard (USB 1.1) then resisted adopting the mature standard: USB2. So Macs were stuck with USB 1.1 ports a couple of years after most PCs had USB2. Ya, we had Firewire but there was no reason besides simple bloody minded stubbornness holding USB2 back.
As was the case with the floppy removal: Being too early is the same thing as being wrong.
