Tiger 10.4 Install (not-upgrade) what a mess

OK, so I sat out here way too long on Jag 10.2.8 but hey, it wasn't broke so I didn't need to fix it. However as I pined for the days when I could last watch movie trailers and the like I decided it was time to move on up. So I bought a new hard drive (250GB) installed it, and put Tiger on it as a whole new system (Jag remains on it's own separate drive).

My hardware: G4 dual 867 (mirror door) 1.75GB RAM, 60GB int, 250GB int. 80GB ext F400.

My issues:

a. SLEEP! It won't go to sleep-ever. For the 3+years I've owned the G4 I've only shut it down completely when I was leaving for multi-day trips/vacations. With Tiger-my only recourse now is to shut it down (hard) or restart on the Jag drive and put it to sleep that way.

b. The G4 came loaded with all the iApps, and Tiger 10.4 has new a version of iTunes-but how do I move my music library from old iTunes to new?

c. Ditto on above for my Address Book?

d. I'd like to upgrade iPhoto too, but will I have to buy iLife '06...even though it will have a lot of upgrades for apps i don't have/use? Will the iPhoto upgrade on there move my photo library to the new system?

thanks in advance!

Re: Tiger 10.4 Install (not-upgrade) what a mess

a) I can't offer any specific miracle cure for the sleep issues. General suggestions would be, 1) zap the PRAM/reset the CUDA switch, 2) try unplugging any USB and/or Firewire devices. If it does turn out to be a peripheral maybe a driver update will fix things.

b) In the new iTunes try the "Add to Library" command in the file menu. Select your entire old ~/Music/iTunes folder to add. It should bring everything over. It worked for me copying my iTunes library from my Mac over to the PC, though that was with the same version of iTunes on both machines.

c) No idea how to deal with Address Book - I don't use it.

d) I don't use iPhoto either.

Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

iPhoto will remain the same.

To move your data files of Address Book, visit and copy the appropriate folders in your Home / Library / Application Support folder.     And back those folders up regularly.

I got my iTunes Library transferred (thanks test), PRAM, cuda, and all that I had already tried-my sleep problem remains.

I'm resigned to having to rely upon 18th centiury technology (pencil and paper) to move my Address Book info, fortunately I only have 20 or so contacts.

For address book you can export all your contacts as a vcard and transfer them over. in you old address book select "all" and then click file>"export vcard" and you should be able to open that file on your new system.

Why not use the Migration Assistant and tell it which items you want to transfer over from the 10.2.8 volume to the new 10.4 volume?
