He should just knock it down, pay the fine and get on with building his house on his property.

Re: Steve Jobs New Home Delayed Again
It is also not unheard of for unoccupied houses to be burned by drugged out ravers and suchlike.
Old houses have bad wiring.
There are many options.

That photo makes it look like Jobs could use a little renovating, himself.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Re: Steve Jobs New Home Delayed Again
Wonder if Steve can afford to just let the place fall in on itself?

Re: Steve Jobs New Home Delayed Again
Letting a house just fall down can take years, maybe decades, depending on climate and how well the house was built. I know of 3 or 4 old houses around here that were abandoned for 10-20 years or longer before they finally fell down. And that with no windows so the interior was exposed to Ontario winters. They just don't build 'em like that any more.
Maybe if Steve leaves all the windows open and a big storm blows in from the Pacific just as an earthquake hits? Or is the house in an area prone to mudslides or brush fires?

Re: Steve Jobs New Home Delayed Again
Simple solution.
Put the house on the market and buy a house that isn't "historic".
Let someone who wants to restore it have it.
Or better yet - with all those rooms, file an application to turn it into Section 8 housing.
I bet then his snooty neighbors wouldn't mind it being torn down.

I'm of the "if they won't pay for it why should I" school of thought.

Agreed. It's not like the Peninsula is having a shortage of nice secluded hills and Steve found the last one left.

It's been tried. The problem is, no-one who can afford it wants to buy it.

Might be more than a monetary fine. Could be contempt of court and jail time. Ouch!

Well, maybe he should build his really nice house right next to the ancient house.
Then cover the house with stuff to make it look like a really big iPod.

Like I said before people who do not value historic homes in historic areas SHOULD NOT smurfing BUY INTO THEM.

Yeah. I'm kind of wondering why someone would buy a historic building to demolish it.

When Steve bought the property in the early 1980s the house was only about 60 years old. The realtor never represented it to be an historic building. In the intervening 25 years the building is now alleged to be of historic importance.

I suppose that is possible. Bad idea then - Apple is doing well right now and Steve Jobs going to jail probably would not be good for the company and, by extension, us.

I think its funny that anyone would care enough about a billionaire they did not know to spend time ranting about the person's personal life.

Re: Steve Jobs New Home Delayed Again
Steve Jobs is a multi-billionaire and we are expected to believe refurbishing the place would be a hardship?
Think of it this way: One million dollars is 1/10th of 1% of one billion dollars.
Relative to a typical income Jobs is facing a possible $30.00 expense or loss.

Of course it's doable, but Steve does not want his wife and children to live in a 17,000+ square foot building. He wants to construct a 6,000 square foot home with amenities a tech savvy wealthy modernist can imagine and afford.
