Unreal T (old school) freezes

My son has my old Mac and it's a G3 500 with about 290 mb Ram.  He used to be able to play UT just fine, but lately it freezes anytime he starts any kind of multiplayer.  I have no idea why.

I've tossed prefs... tossed the .ini files... upped the memory allocation... but it still freezes.  We used to have a good time playing each other... no problemo.

No idea.

I'm running 9.1.

Anything else I can try?  I've done the pram and desktop too.

It's been a while since I did anything with UT 99, but are you running the latest version of UT? Was 436 the last version, gang?

Yeah, 436 is the last version.  If you are running an earlier version you should upgrade.

If that doesn't help, all I can think of is running Disk First Aid and, if you have them, Disk Warrior and TechTool.

Re: Unreal T (old school) freezes

Does it only do it in MP? How does the single player run?

I remember with my DP500 G4 if my TCPIP prefs were corrupt the game would lock up, but so would any other network apps like IE or filesharing.

Re: Unreal T (old school) freezes

How do I know if my TCP IP stuff is corrupt?  that could be it...

My Dual 867 G4 is running UT sluggishly as well... very strange.  I did a clean install of UT on the old machine and we got a MP up and running last night... although it was sluggish.

When we tried to quit, it froze again.

GL quake also freezes... so I don't know if it's the games or machine or what.  I did the DiskWarrior thing... nothing seems to help.

Buggy buggy stuff.

How does the machine run with the other apps?

Did you add something new to either machine?

I had that problem in OS X and I found out that all I needed to do was wait. Yes, it seems like the app just froze, but give it 3 to 5 minutes and it should come alive again.

Re: Unreal T (old school) freezes

Try installing the eavy server browser, it should fix the Mac master server issues with the game taking a pause for a few minutes.

Should also make the servers load faster, I use this on all my Macs.
