ibook G4? or MacBook?

I'm planning on buying a MacBook very soon...but i'm not sure which would better fit me. I need to use my future mac for using programs such as adobe creative suite 2, flash, and dreamweaver. I have an idea of what customizations i want for my MacBook, but i was wondering....what is the difference between an ibook G4 & a MacBook??? And which would best fit my situation? Which would you recommend if i need a mac for graphic designing purposes...an  ibook G4, MacBook, or MacBook Pro? i just want to do my research first before i take the plunge! confused

I'd go with the MacBook.

big_smile

I use All those programs and More On A iBook G-4 1ghz with 768ram and have no problems running them at all! The only issue i have is storage of jpegs, gifs et al but thats easily solvable. As For The Macbook, Its a great machine and would be great to have and use if you can afford one.

Re: ibook G4? or MacBook?

Get the MacBook.  Your apps will most likely run as fast, if not faster under Rosetta than on a iBook.  Not to mention CS3 (which will be universal), will be released pretty soon (the beta's out).

Get lots of RAM and a decent sized hard drive.

Dunno', but if Leopard's on the near horizon like I keep hearing, you might put it off until you get a free upgrade with it...

Re: ibook G4? or MacBook?

Sorry for the late response - been out of town.
I bought a powerbook G4 very cheap when everyone decided to dump them and get macbooks. This one had been upgraded to 1.5 Gig of RAM and a larger hard drive. Because CS2 has not been written native for the macbook, it runs just as fast if not faster on the G4. I have no problems with Photoshop or Illustrator on mine. I figured this will tide me over for a few years - by then CS will be Macbook optimized and all the bugs will be worked out of them.

Re: ibook G4? or MacBook?

I love both the G4 and the Macbook. Either one would proabably be great. Obviously the Macbook is newer and would have more coverage and last a bit longer, but if you don't have as much money to deal with, i'd go with a used G4 on craigslist.org or online, you can get them new for relatively cheap at retailers.

Good luck! Remember, the decision is yours...

Re: ibook G4? or MacBook?

tongue Apple is at least supporting PPC through leopard for sure.Like I said I cant afford a macbook at this time. The G-4 ibook I own (1ghz, 768 ram) works just fine for all the programs i use, photo.cs,indesign cs, dreamweaver2004, flash and fireworks mx, adobe premier 6.5 this list goes on and on. I think i'll wait for a while before i get a  mb pro, until the costs come down a little anyway! Right Now cost is an issue and my ibook is still rocking and i cant justify the cost.As for it being obsolete? I work in the semiconductor industry And I KNOW the macbook you just bought is already 18 months obsolete! Just Like bying a new car its obsolete as soon as you drive it off the lot!who you trying to kid? LMAO

Re: ibook G4? or MacBook?

now i would not just jump in this partly cause i have an ibook and love it but we cant just buy a new computor... recicle an older one it will be less expensive and you can upgrade it at a compUSA if you need to the ibook G4 is a good computor
