Retired Power Mac G4 ideas?
I have an old 400mhz Power Mac G4 and I now use a MBP. I was wondering if there were any neat things to do with the old girl instead of tossing it in the closet to collect dust, or worse, put it in eBay.
It's been good to me for so long I hate to just stop using it, the HD is only 12GB so it's not much for backup. So if anyone knows cool things to do with the case or anything of the sort, lets get those ideas flowing in! Thanks!

You could always install Linux on it and use it as a learning tool, I am sure it will run well and I have heard of them being used for BBS's, routers, webservers, and if you have a a decent high speed connection you could use it as a teamspeak server. Or you might see if there is a webserver App you can play with. I will think of some more and let you know going to look for some ideas online

buy a couple of cheap 120 GB drives,(the largest it can use without a separate ata card) and use it as a remote file storage unit... hook it up to your speaker system and a printer and share them over the network with your 'book... run F@H on it in its spare time.

Download slave - that's what I use my old 12" PowerBook as with a dead internal HD hooked up to a 120GB external.

Re: Retired Power Mac G4 ideas?
You could use it as an iTunes music server, so you don't have to use and HD space on your MBP for MP3s

Re: Retired Power Mac G4 ideas?
I've got a Dual 450 that I was considering making into a Media Server of sorts. Couldn't think of anything else besides giving it to a family member so the could actually open half of the attachments that I currently send to their PC.
Mine needs another 120GB or so, thanks Freezer Mac!
What do I need to install to allow my machine to display on my 24" Sony rear projection? I can run Video through my Receiver too. Don't say, "a new video card."

Watchout for the media center thing. If you're planning on running it 24/7 you should monitor it's electricity usage before you go setting it up. These old towers use a helluva lot of juice. Could even be $20-$30/month.
