I won't miss Max, because he is an anthromorphized imposter. This is the Max I miss:

There's no reason why all the max emoticons can't still be used here.

Fixed that for ya big_smile

Why would Mac|Life support a website for a mag that no longer exists?
Will there be a new forum at the new mags website?
If so maybe there will be new emoticons like daisies, puppies, pinwheels and hearts!

Yes… yes, you're absolutely right. Having a couple of emoticons that relate to the new mag's history totally comes down to "supporting a website for a mag that no longer exists".

I can't see that happening. Not at all.

But the new mag doesn't have a history. It is a brand new mag going after a different demographic than MacAddict. That is why they are switching. To start fresh with no baggage or "history" that might put off the new consumers view of Mac|Life.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?

You're absolutely right, again. This new demographic will probably be put off by seeing Max emoticons on the forums, because they can't relate to them, rather than than just think they're funnily-shaped smilies and get used to them.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?

Has anyone seen the Jan/07 issue yet? It's got a nine-page preview insert to give you a glimpse at what Mac|Life will look like. And we just finished the premiere issue (which hits newsstands right around the Expo), which I'm psyched for people to see. We do read your comments, so fire away (just remember that you're talking to fellow humans, please).

I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?

Hi... First time poster but way, way, way long time MacAddict and Reader.  LOL.

Anyhow I have looked over all the posts in this thread and there is one thing I don't see.  I also didn't hear anything about it in Rik's Interview nor on the new Mac|Life site or the 'News' on MacAddict.com or in the December ish.  I am of course talking about The Disc.  Will it continue?  I saw a comment earlier that asked if the cardboard sleeves would make a return but nothing from nobody has made mention about the Disc.  I would think that that too would get a cool Makeover.  But there is no mention of it period or at least that I could find.

Does anyone know the answer... Besides MA being a cool Mag it's the Discs that keep me renewing year in and year out.

Thanks

I have already placed the Jan 07 issue in the recycle bin.  (Still have the CD it came with.)

I received mine about two weeks ago and it was still named MacAddict.

And, yes, it does mention the name change in the Jan 07 issue.

Yeah and maybe they will send you the mags from '04, '05 and 06. big_smile

Did you see what is on the cover of the issue they have in the picture for that ebay action?

MacAddict magazine no longer exists so unless the subscription is for Mac|Life then just what would they be sending you?

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?

The new magazine is awesome in many ways, but I still love the MacAddict name better. I think name MacAddict represents how I feel about Apple products more so than Mac|Life does. But rose by any other name is still a rose, so rock on Mac|Life! ^_^

Actually I preferred MacAddict. I don't know if anyone else feels that way, but if you were going to make drastic changes you should have looked at the Euro mags, not make a different version of Macworld and the other ones on the newstand.

When my subscription runs out, that'll be it for me. I enjoyed the humor in MacAddict, if I wanted just plain facts, I'd read Macworld.

I hope you're successful.

Plenty of people feel that way, read the relevant threads on the forum.

but if you were going to make drastic changes you should have looked at the Euro mags, not make a different version of Macworld and the other ones on the newstand.

What does that even mean? A different version of Macworld? So it's a Mac magazine, but different from Macworld. Right, isn't that the point?

I enjoyed the humor in MacAddict, if I wanted just plain facts, I'd read Macworld.

Well okay, but.. it's the same writers. confused

Re: MacAddict changing name to MacLife?

I prefer the old magazine format - mostly.  I do like the new paper.  But otherwise, the format looks over-designed to me.  I feel like I am in line at the bank and I am looking around at all the "propaganda" on the walls with happy people sitting at their desk doing their bills online with a cup of coffee next to them.
I get it, using the mac is simple, but really, does almost EVERY department have to be summed up in one word?  Why are all the colors look like I am in the gap at the mall?
The old magazine had the feel of a bunch of guys getting together and being informal. I could have a beer reading Macaddict. I feel like I need a latte when I read Mac|Life.

Can't the format be a little less feminine?
