grrr... humanity is pathetic
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,260881,00.html
How could a sister refuse that to her brother? It honestly makes me sick.
If Osama bin Laden himself needed an organ/marrow donor, I would give happily.
I believe everyone is supposed to love each other (somehow) and it seems that as the years go by, society is becoming worse and worse. Filled with hatred and conspiracy towards each other. What ever happened to peace. Family unity.
Nowadays it seems that people only care about money. Our government is being run by money grubbing neocons who give a bad name to christianity.
I wish I was born earlier because this is a really bad generation.

Niice, a parting shot.
It sucks because the dude has 3 kids and a wife. The sister deserved to get leukemia and the only person who will be a match will be the (dead)brother's child. The child will refuse because she killed her daddy.

Spite is a beautiful thing.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

Would it suck less if the "dude" was unmarried and childless?
You seem awfully judgmental about a situation you know smurf-all about, apart from what preciously little information was offered in a newspaper article (and don't even start about what kind of newspaper).
It is one of the most fundamental rights of man to decide whether or not to donate parts of their bodies to others, whatever their reasons are. That needs to be respected, no matter what.

The fact that he is married and has children means his death will emotionally torture his wife and children. Have you lost a parent? A spouse? If so, you know how it feels. If not, let me describe, It is the worst most sickening feeling you could possibly feel(loss of parent).
She may have a right to do what she wants with her body, I respect that right whole-heartedly, but I believe that she is a cold hearted animal who does not deserve life if she is not willing to give it.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Like I said before, I would give any part of my body to give ANYBODY life, no matter their offenses towards me or anyone else.
If you needed it, I would donate you my heart.

Read the article - she was going to donate in 2004, and was tested, but it wasn't necessary. The leukemia cropped up again and now she's saying no.

Why the hell did someone write a "news" article about this?

Most generous. However, we all know that won't happen in an above-board hospital.
I do agree that withholding a bone marrow donation may be unreasonable, doesn't the marrow grow back whereas hearts, kidneys and lungs don't. A live liver donation is possible because the doctors only take part of the donor's liver.
If the donor has had a change of heart, maybe they've also had a change in their health over the past 3 years, such as Hepatitis C, aids or some other ailment, why should they donate, or even share about their own problems?

Great point. That of course brings up some philosophical questions such as : would you rather die from leukemia or be cured from leukemia and live with a life threatening disease.

Dude, that's the second thing that sprang to my mind when I read the article. The first was what a cockmunch their father was for taking this to the press.

Well, as far as I can tell, I will eventually die, just like everyone else. A slow painful death by leukemia really sounds no better than any other slow painful disease.
May we all go peacefully in our sleep.

Thanks. I missed that through my sleep deprived eyes.
Personally, there are few people i would donate any body part to, especially marrow. It's a long drawn out, and very painful process. One person i know that donated marrow to a family member didn't think he was going to make it through the process, and he said had they been completely honest with him about what he was going to go through, he woulda thought more about it.
Just because you'd do anything for "anyone" doesn't mean we all will, and it's none of your business. Quit trying to make this woman out to be the bad guy in this.

Re: grrr... humanity is pathetic
The first reply to the full-length report pretty much sums up what I'm thinking about the choice to have gone public with this:
I am a transplantee myself and am very disturbed by this story. Donating organs or bonemarrow is and must be completely voluntary, and should also be private. I could easily appreciate people refusing to be tested for compatability after reading this. I hope this man realises the possible damage his actions may cause. I certainly wouldn't be tested for his sake knowing that I would be hung out in the press afterwards if I decided not to donate.

Well she kinda sorta is.
Denying her blood relative life just because the procedure is painful?
And sure she has a right to do with her body as she pleases, but her decisions will shape her as either a villain or a good guy. She has chosen the former.

I just saw a movie about a screwed up family where the brother molested the sister so the article made me think of it. But then again, maybe she is just a jerk.

It's interesting that you start a thread in here complaining about and judging people that choose not to donate organs, and yet you completely ignore the thread in Unplugged about one of our posters wives donating a kidney.
Just saying.
